Macedonia’s recreation spots offer a variety of experiences: Longwood Park combines hiking trails with a paved path, a fishing pier, and a playground. There is also the history of Longwood Manor, hiking trails and a basketball court at Sugarbush Park, and fitness equipment at the Macedonia Family Recreation Center. This gives you a range of activities to choose from as you plan your trip, rather than just one destination for an outing.

Longwood Park: Trails and Outdoor Recreation

Longwood Park covers 300 acres and has several miles of hiking trails. If you enjoy getting around on foot, these offer a different option from the paved path, which is suitable for bicycles, strollers, wheelchairs, and pedestrians. The paved path offers another way to explore the park. If you are planning a visit with children or using different modes of transportation, choosing between the hiking trails and the paved path may be an important part of your day’s plans.

The park also has a fishing pier overlooking a stocked lake. This adds a quieter way to spend time outdoors to the options available on the trails. A playground and public restrooms round out the park’s facilities. The combination of opportunities for exercise, a play area, and restrooms gives you several practical points to consider when planning, without requiring every activity to use the same path or area.

Longwood Manor and Its History

Longwood Manor was first built in 1924 and rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1926. This sequence gives the building its own historical story: the original construction was followed by reconstruction after the fire. The Manor is therefore not only an addition to the nature and recreation options, but also a place with a clearly defined connection to the building’s history.

Weather permitting, Open Houses are held at Longwood Manor on the last Sunday of the month from April through September, from 1 to 4 p.m. If you are considering a visit during these hours, keep both the monthly schedule and the weather caveat in mind. The Open Houses are a specific opportunity to experience the Manor; they should not be mistaken for an offering available daily or year-round.

More Recreation Options

Sugarbush Park has hiking trails and a basketball court. This park offers two different types of activities: trails for a walk and a court for basketball. Which one better suits your day depends on whether you are looking for a walking route or a sport activity. By comparison, Longwood Park combines hiking trails with a paved path for bicycles, strollers, wheelchairs, and pedestrians, as well as a fishing pier.

The Macedonia Family Recreation Center has fitness equipment. This adds an option for exercising with equipment to the range of activities, while the hiking trails at Longwood Park and Sugarbush Park offer outdoor activities. The focus of your vacation may determine which vacation rental in Macedonia is right for you: outdoor recreation or a visit with a historical touch?
