Yadkin County combines winemaking tradition, riverside landscapes and culture with experiences that accommodate different travel interests. Twelve wineries produce award-winning wines, while the area also offers access to the Yadkin River and activities at Lake Hampton. When looking for a vacation rental or vacation home, it is therefore worth deciding on your preferred focus first: wine and regional specialties, water and nature, family experiences or history.

Wine and Regional Specialties

The wineries shape an important part of the destination. You can explore the wineries independently or use the Yadkin Wine Shuttle Service as a driver-provided option. A special event is the Yadkin Valley Grape Festival: Held annually on the third Saturday in October, the event combines wine tastings with live performances, arts and crafts, and food offerings. Yadkin Winter Reds is also held annually. At this event, wineries from Yadkin County present their wines together with a small food pairing.

There are also regional discoveries beyond the events. Shiloh General Store offers Amish-made goods, homemade baked goods, deli meats and cheeses, as well as fresh sandwiches.

Water and Nature Along the River

Shore-Styers Mill Nature Park is located along North Deep Creek, where a cascade forms the centerpiece. The Yadkin River Trail is designated as a state Blueway Trail and has four access points in Yadkin County. The county also maintains the Donnaha Yadkin River Access, Shores Yadkin River Access and Huntsville Yadkin River Access river access points.

Yadkin Memorial Park is located on Lake Hampton. Kayaks, pedal boats, stand-up paddleboards and boats with trolling motors are permitted there, while boats with gasoline engines are not allowed. Kayaks and Jon boats can be rented by the hour or day; there is also an accessible kayak launch. For a stay involving varied interests, this focus can be combined with a walk in Yadkin County Park, which features a crushed-stone walking path, a nature trail and two fishing ponds.

Family Experiences, Art and History

Alpha & Omega is a 20-acre agritourism property with maze paths, hayrides, horse-drawn wagon rides and more than 30 activities. The five-acre corn maze uses an interactive app with individually created QR codes; the average crossing can take about 30 minutes. This makes it possible to plan a varied day with different activity preferences without making every outing the same.

Yadkin County also has six Civil War Trail markers. Step-on guide services are available for tours of the Yadkin County Quilt Trail. The Yadkin Valley Harvest Festival has been a highlight in the Yadkinville area since 1976.
