Wolf Swamp Road runs through the Pumpkin Center neighborhood, connecting U.S. Route 17 to the north with Piney Green Road to the south. Other destinations in different locations can also be part of your vacation plans: several parks, trails, and cultural sites are in the host city of Jacksonville, while Northeast Creek Park is also a destination near Pumpkin Center. If you’re looking for a vacation rental, you can plan your stay around whether trails, activities on the water, a spring festival, or a day at the beach will be the main focus.

Parks, Trails, and Water

Jacksonville Commons Recreation Complex is the largest green space among the parks and recreation areas within Jacksonville’s city limits. The complex also offers baseball and softball, basketball, and cycling trails. The citywide trail network is a separate offering: more than 23 miles of trails and greenways within the city limits are open to pedestrians and cyclists. Visitors who want to explore the area on foot or by bike will find a different kind of experience here than at a single park.

Trails and greenways run through Lejeune Memorial Gardens and connect military bases with city trails. Northeast Creek Park offers a different focus: a boat and kayak launch, a fishing area, a disc golf course, a splash pad, an inclusive playground, and picnic shelters. The public boat ramp has two launch lanes and provides access to Northeast Creek, which flows into the New River south of Wilson Bay. Near Pumpkin Center, the park is also a good place to fish in the New River and kayak on the water.

Spring Festival and Memorial

Jacksonville’s Jamboree is an annual spring festival in the host city of Jacksonville. It takes place in May at Jacksonville Commons Recreation Complex. The program includes sports competitions, a car show, live music, rides, food, and games for the whole family. Event details may change, so check the current date before your trip.

Lejeune Memorial Gardens includes the Beirut Memorial. Together with the trails running through the gardens, it offers a different perspective on Jacksonville than a day on the water or at a sports facility: the site combines a memorial with the city’s greenways and trail connections. If you want to include culture and outdoor activity in your plans, this is a good option to distinguish from activities at Northeast Creek.

Plan Beach Days and Your Vacation Rental

Jacksonville is the reference point for beaches: they are approximately a 20- to 30-minute drive north or south of the city. Emerald Isle is also mentioned as a beach-day destination for civilian visitors. If a beach day is important to your trip, use Jacksonville as the basis for the approximate drive time and plan your journey from your specific accommodation.

When choosing a vacation rental in Pumpkin Center, it helps to compare the actual address with the destinations you want to visit. Focusing on cycling and walking trails will lead to different day plans than fishing, kayaking, or visiting the Jamboree. If you want to combine several of these activities, treat destinations in Jacksonville and attractions near Pumpkin Center as separate planning points.
