Delhi: Hiking Trails, River Landscapes and Local Markets
Accommodation in Delhi
There are several ways to discover Delhi: The Delhi Trails comprise four hiking trails leading to Mt. Crawford in the Village of Delhi; the Smith Pond Trail follows the West Branch of the Delaware River through grassland and mixed forest. Other options include an Outdoor Education Center with walking paths and a butterfly garden, a year-round Farmers’ Market, and an annual harvest festival. You can plan your stay around nature, outdoor activities, regional products or history.
Trails around Mt. Crawford and the river
The Delhi Trails are a network of four hiking trails on Mt. Crawford. If you enjoy exploring on foot during your stay, they provide a specific starting point for planning your day. The Smith Pond Trail offers a separate route: It follows the West Branch of the Delaware River through grassland and mixed forest. These landscapes give the trail a different character from a route through forest alone. If you like to include a hike in your day, you can consider both descriptions as different ideas for your stay in Delhi.
Walking paths, butterflies and picnic areas
The SUNY Delhi Outdoor Education Center covers a 40-acre park. Its listed amenities include walking paths, a butterfly garden, fishing access on the Little Delaware River, and picnic areas. This offers a choice of different ways to enjoy the outdoors: You can focus on a walk, explore the garden or include the picnic areas in your plans for the day. Fishing access adds another way to connect with the river. The Center is open from dawn to dusk.
When choosing a vacation rental in Delhi, your preferred pace can be a helpful starting point: Would you like to spend most of your time on trails and in nature, or include visits to the market and local history as well? The places and activities described offer different options, so every stay doesn’t have to look the same.
Market life and the harvest festival
The Delhi Farmers’ Market takes place year-round. From May to October, it is held outdoors at Courthouse Square on Main Street. The offerings include fresh vegetables, meat, fish and eggs, as well as coffee, syrup, baked goods, herbal remedies and other local products. The variety makes the market a destination for different interests: You can look for ingredients for your own meals or explore other regional products.
The Delhi Harvest Festival is held annually. It celebrates the work accomplished over the summer and the joy of the fall harvest. The program includes shopping along Main Street and a large vendor market at Courthouse Square. The 2026 festival was scheduled for September 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This date applies to the 2026 event; it does not establish a date for any other year.
A trip into history
The Delaware County Historical Association is located nearby, northeast of Delhi. It includes the Frisbee House, a Federal-style house built in 1797. If you’re interested in historic architecture, you can consider this as a cultural highlight alongside the area’s nature and market offerings. The house’s historical significance also makes the trip interesting for visitors who want to learn more about the built history of the area.
