Woodland Park offers several reasons to visit: at the Passaic County Environmental Center, nature topics and an astronomical observatory come together under one roof. You can experience historic architecture at Lambert Tower, while two parks offer their own perspectives on the surrounding area. Which of these interests you most can help you choose your vacation rental and decide what to focus on during your trip.

Nature topics and hands-on learning

The Passaic County Environmental Center houses a nature center and an astronomical observatory. Nature and astronomy therefore offer two distinct interests for a stay in Woodland Park. If you like to plan your trip around such topics, the Center is a good starting point for considering which experiences should take priority for your group.

The Center works with Passaic County Community College to offer environmental programs and hands-on learning opportunities. These are intended for student groups and the general public. The hands-on learning aspect gives the nature theme its own focus: in addition to exploring the environment, there are also opportunities to learn by doing. This combination is especially interesting for trip planning if you want to make an environmental program the centerpiece of your visit; the observatory adds astronomy to the mix.

Lambert Tower: architectural history and panoramic views

Lambert Tower is a historic site, built in 1896 by silk mill owner Catholina Lambert. Its design is closely connected to Lambert Castle: both were designed to resemble castles in Great Britain where Lambert spent his childhood. The Tower is therefore not just a viewpoint, but also part of an architectural vision inspired by Lambert’s personal connection to these castles.

Visitors can enjoy panoramic views from Lambert Tower. Anyone interested in historic buildings and scenic views will find two different reasons to include the site in their travel plans. Its historical background sets the Tower apart from a purely scenic destination: its connection to Lambert Castle and its design inspired by British castles give a visit a clear historical context.

Opening days and hours are fixed: from May through October, Lambert Tower is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. If the Tower is one of your planned experiences, keep this restriction in mind when choosing your visit day.

Parks, hiking trails, and views

Rifle Camp Park is located in Woodland Park and Clifton. During the American Revolution, it served as an observation post for General George Washington’s troops, who used it to watch British movements. This former military role is part of the park’s history. Today, two marked hiking trails offer an active way to explore the grounds; the park also has an area for overnight stays and camping.

Garret Mountain Reservation, located in Woodland Park and Paterson, offers a different perspective. From there, you can enjoy scenic views of Paterson and the New York City skyline. The parks therefore appeal to different travel interests: at Rifle Camp Park, marked hiking trails and the area’s historical role are the main attractions, while views of the city and skyline are a particular highlight at Garret Mountain Reservation.
