In Paramus, you can pursue a range of vacation interests: trails pass through woodland, natural areas, and wetlands; there is also a zoo, sports facilities, and several places with historical connections. When choosing your destination, you can consider whether you would rather spend your time outdoors, discover history, or plan sporting activities.

Nature Trails and Routes along the Saddle River

The nature trail in Reid Park passes through natural areas and adjoining wetlands and connects the park with Solder Hill Road. If you enjoy spending time outdoors during your stay, you’ll find a route here whose landscape is shaped by these varied areas. Constitution Grove Park offers a different setting: its trail system passes through native woodland. These two descriptions offer different starting points for planning your day—wetlands and natural areas on the one hand, woodland on the other.

A longer route is the Saddle River County Park Bicycle-Pedestrian Pathway: it is 6 miles long and runs through Paramus. Take this distance into account when planning. Easton Tower borders the Saddle River Bikeway and can be accessed via the bikeway. The tower may therefore also be of interest to visitors who want to include the bikeway in their activities.

Local History at Specific Sites

Easton Tower is a unique structure in the Arcola neighborhood. It was built in 1899 on George Easton’s original estate along the Saddle River. The neighborhood and the year it was built are part of the structure’s history, making the tower a distinctive historical landmark in Paramus. Another stop for those interested in culture is the Fritz Behnke Historical Museum at 330 Paramus Road.

The Charles E Reid Branch Library also preserves a piece of local history: the original school bell is on display there. In Buehler Park, an educational trail explores the role of aviation in New Jersey’s history. It is currently being upgraded. If you are interested in the state’s history, this trail offers a different thematic perspective from the museum, school bell, and Easton Tower.

Zoo, Fishing, and Sports

Bergen County Zoo is located in Van Saun County Park at 216 Forest Avenue, Paramus, New Jersey. The park is also a place for anglers: catch-and-release fishing is permitted there. You need a New Jersey state fishing license. This is a practical point to keep in mind if you plan to include fishing in your stay.

For sporting activities, Paramus has a lighted Sports-Plex. Its facilities include baseball, Little League, softball, soccer, American football, basketball, and tennis. The selection therefore ranges from ball sports to tennis. Paramus may be a good place to look for a vacation rental if you want to include nature trails, local history, a zoo visit, or sports in your trip. Which of these interests matters to you can help you decide whether Paramus is the right destination.
