Water landscapes, green trails, and a layered local history give Rankin many different facets. The Pearl River flows through Rankin County; the Barnett Reservoir in the county covers 33,000 acres. There are also nature trails, parks, historic buildings, and events. When planning your vacation, you can consider these experiences as different focal points: will your trip be mainly about water, outdoor activities, culture, or attending an event?

Reservoir, Nature Trails, and Parks

There is a botanical garden at Barnett Reservoir. Rankin County is also surrounded by national forests, where visitors can hike scenic nature trails. This means the waterscape and green trails offer different reasons to visit, without requiring you to limit yourself to just one kind of outdoor activity.

In Pearl, Bright Park has a paved, ⅔-mile loop through a wooded area and along a pond. The park is also a certified arboretum with 37 different tree species. The trail’s precise length and paved surface make it a specific option, while the variety of trees adds a botanical dimension to the park.

The parks mentioned offer different activities: Bobby Cleveland Park at Lakeshore has swimming facilities, while Pelahatchie Shore Park has an 18-hole disc golf course. Paddling trips are offered on Pelahatchie Creek; check the providers and launch points before your trip. Shiloh Splash Park has an 8,700-square-foot, ground-level water play area and water cannons. It operates seasonally, so check the current dates in advance.
