Discover Roseau
Accommodation in Roseau
Roseau combines outdoor activities with insights into the region’s history. The Greenway includes trails for a range of recreational activities; museums, a historic farm site, and the Polaris Experience Center each add their own cultural highlights. A wooded city park is also located along the Roseau River. During your trip, you can choose between getting active, exploring local history, and attending events.
Greenway, biking trails, and golf
Roseau’s Greenway features a 4.5-mile paved, non-motorized recreational trail that runs along the entire diversion. It also includes nearly 13 miles of narrow mountain biking trails around Mt. Roseau. If you want to make biking a focus, you can take these differences into account when planning. The Greenway also includes an ATV terrain park.
Another activity is available at the publicly operated Oak Crest Golf Course on the Roseau River. Its 18-hole championship course adds golf to the recreational options. Roseau City Park, in turn, is a wooded park of more than 40 acres in southeastern Roseau along the Roseau River. It has a boat launch. The park also offers RV and tent sites with water and electricity hookups.
Local history and Polaris
Agricultural history is the focus at Roseau Pioneer Farm and Village. Founded in 1975 as an agricultural museum, the site features restored buildings, including a one-room schoolhouse, a print shop, a general store, and a church.
The Roseau County Museum features exhibits on the cultural and natural history of Roseau County and northwestern Minnesota. Visitors can also see rotating exhibitions from the Smithsonian Institution and other regional organizations. The Roseau County Historical Society and Museum also shares the history of Roseau County through museum exhibits, a research center, and educational programs.
The 5,600-square-foot Polaris Experience Center is dedicated to the history and development of Polaris. In addition, Polaris factory tours are offered during regular production, Monday through Friday at 2 p.m.; they are free to the public. Those interested in the company’s development can choose between a visit to the Experience Center and a tour during the stated production hours.
Market, music, and events
The Roseau Marketplace takes place every Thursday from June through October across from the Roseau City Center. Local produce and crafts are offered there. Also on Thursdays in summer, regional musicians perform at the Riverview Park Gazebo. The two offerings give you different reasons to spend a Thursday in Roseau: the market, with its produce and crafts, or music at the gazebo.
In fall, the Pioneer Farm Festival features a celebration with demonstrations from earlier times, music, and other activities for the whole family. The Roseau County Fair also offers events, entertainment, and food. Roseau is also a participating community on the Pine to Prairie International Birding Trail.
When choosing your vacation rental, your trip’s priorities may be decisive: Are you interested in Greenway activities, especially in history and Polaris, or do you want to take market and event dates into account? These different interests can help you plan your stay without every experience needing to have the same focus.
