Milaca combines outdoor experiences with insights into the history of the community and its surroundings. The Milaca Trails are located along the Rum River, and the disc golf course also crosses the river on several holes. The Milaca Museum offers exhibits and a research library on regional history. This gives you a basis for deciding whether outdoor recreation, sports, or culture should be the focus of your trip.

Milaca Trails: Several Activities in One Landscape

The trail system is 12 miles long and includes singletrack and doubletrack trails. It covers 200 acres of wooded, hilly, and meadow landscape along the Rum River. Biking, hiking, running, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing are permitted on the Milaca Trails. This gives you a range of ways to spend time outdoors, without limiting the trails to just one activity. The information about length and terrain gives you a concrete reference when planning to include the trails in your trip.

Another experience along the Rum River is Runnin' in the Ruff, an annual trail run. It includes a 2-mile distance, which can be run or walked, and a 10-kilometer distance. The two route options differ in length; no event date is specified here. So if you plan to travel to Milaca for the run, check the date separately for your travel year.

Winter Activities and Archery

The trail area remains a destination in winter, too: about five miles of the Milaca Trails are seasonally groomed for winter activities. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are among the activities permitted on the trails. For planning your trip, the key point is therefore not the length of the entire trail system, but the seasonally groomed section.

Another sports option is the Milaca Archery Range. The facility has 18 covered shooting stations, including three broadhead pits. There is also a 3D course with 14 different targets. The Archery Range is open from sunrise to sunset, April through October.

Disc Golf and the Rum River

The Milaca Disc Golf Course is an 18-hole course. Several holes cross the Rum River, making the river part of the playing experience. The Rec Park is also located on the banks of the Rum River. These two offerings show different ways to experience the river in Milaca: as part of several disc golf holes and from the Rec Park on its banks.

Local History at the Milaca Museum

The Milaca Area Historical Society shares the history of Milaca and the surrounding communities and townships. To do so, it offers museum exhibits and a research library at the Milaca Museum. The society has a collection of more than 12,000 objects and documents. The exhibits provide a way to explore the history, while the research library offers another way to learn about it. The subject matter explicitly extends beyond Milaca to include the surrounding communities and townships.

When choosing where to stay, you can consider which aspect of Milaca matters most to you: the trails and their various permitted activities, the offerings along the Rum River, or regional history. This makes it possible to assess Milaca as a destination based on specific interests, rather than limiting your trip to a single activity.
