Wyandotte offers several distinct reasons to stay: Bishop Park on the Detroit River, the historic offerings of the Wyandotte Museums, and activities ranging from fishing to golf. There are also two kayak launches, rowing regattas and a public recreation center. If you’re planning a family trip, you can consider which of these interests you’d like to shape your stay: a visit to the park, a look at local history or a day focused on sports.

Park and fishing pier on the Detroit River

Bishop Park is on the Detroit River and borders Wyandotte’s central business district. This gives the park a direct connection to the town center. There are opportunities for fishing from a large fishing pier. So, if you’re interested in fishing, you’ll find a clearly identified place to go; if you’re mainly looking to get a sense of the central business district, you can take the park’s location into account as you find your way around Wyandotte. The park, business district and fishing pier each offer a different point of interest, without requiring you to limit your stay to just one way of exploring.

History and museums

The Wyandotte Museums preserve the area’s heritage through historic buildings, collections, archives, publications, exhibitions, programs and special events. The range spans tangible collections and historic buildings, as well as publications and events. Tours of the Ford-MacNichol Home, archives, educational programs and special programs are offered on campus. The Ford-MacNichol Home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For culturally minded travelers, these are different aspects to consider when exploring Wyandotte’s history. Tours of the home and the other museum offerings should be considered separate formats.

Tours of the Wyandotte Museum are scheduled from April through October and in December, Thursday through Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m. The last tour begins at 4:30 p.m. If you’d like to include a tour in your plans, this time window can help you narrow down the day and time of your visit.

Golf, kayaking and rowing

The Wyandotte Shores Golf Course, a standard nine-hole golf course, is also located on the Detroit River. It is operated and managed by the city. For visitors interested in including golf in their travel plans, the number of holes is a specific feature of the course. This makes the golf course another way to explore Wyandotte, distinct from the fishing pier at Bishop Park and the cultural offerings of the museums.

Kayaking and rowing are also among the activities on offer: Wyandotte has two kayak launches and hosts nationally recognized rowing regattas. These two features give water sports enthusiasts more options to consider when planning their trip. The regattas and kayak launches are separate from the offerings in the park and at the golf course; they do not form part of a shared route or a set itinerary.

For other interests, there is the Benjamin F. Yack Arena in Downtown Wyandotte. It is a versatile public recreation center with 3,000 seats. Together with the location of Bishop Park, this provides another point of reference: the park borders the central business district, while the arena is in Downtown. When choosing a vacation rental in Wyandotte, you can first consider which areas and experiences matter most for your stay.
