Ruston offers summer celebrations, art, and a variety of ways to explore history. The Louisiana Peach Festival brings music, an art market, and activities for children to the heart of the city. Galleries and museums offer other highlights, while the wider Lincoln Parish adds opportunities at the lake and on mountain biking trails. You can shape your trip around the experiences that interest you most.

Festival Spirit and Peaches

The Louisiana Peach Festival takes place annually in the summer in downtown Ruston. Its program includes live music, a juried art market, food vendors, and activities for children. Dates change from year to year, and program details may also vary. So if you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates and program for your travel year.

Peaches also feature in the offerings at Mitcham Farms Peach Store. Year-round, you’ll find peach-themed gifts, peach preserves, jellies, cobbler mix, and peach candies; seasonal stock may vary. The Ruston Farmers Market enables producers to sell directly to consumers and supports a local food network in North Louisiana. Together, these offerings provide a different take on food than the vendors at the festival: here, the focus is on products and direct sales, while there, it’s on the festival program.

Art in Public Spaces and Galleries

In the Cultural District downtown, pedestrian-friendly streets invite you to explore galleries, artists’ studios, public art, venues, and historic architecture. Louisiana Tech University’s two gallery spaces add to the art scene. Artists there work in media including painting, drawing, video, printmaking, installation, sculpture, photography, ceramics, textiles, and digital art. The range extends from traditional visual media to installations and digital works.

The Bulldog Project also brings art into public spaces: it comprises 22 large bulldog statues in Ruston, each designed by a local artist. Some statues from a second round may not yet be permanently installed. If you’d like to discover art not only in galleries but also as part of the cityscape, this offers another distinct way to experience it.

History from Different Perspectives

The Louisiana Tech Museum houses more than 10,000 artifacts originally belonging to the Caddo Tribe, as well as archaeological, architectural, anthropological, and geological objects. It is located on the fourth floor. The collection brings together several subject areas, inviting visitors to consider objects from different historical and academic perspectives.

Other offerings each focus on a different topic. The North Louisiana Military Museum covers military history from the Civil War through the War on Terror. At the Lincoln Parish Museum, the “Walls That Talk” exhibition features seven murals on the history of Lincoln Parish. Louisiana Tech Archives and Special Collections presents exhibitions on the history of Louisiana Tech, Camp Ruston, and pre-Columbian Native American ceramics; access conditions may vary. Rather than a single account of the region, you’ll encounter different subjects, time periods, and ways of presenting them.

Activities in the Wider Lincoln Parish

For a stay that extends beyond Ruston’s cultural offerings to include the wider Lincoln Parish area, Lincoln Parish Park offers activities on and around the lake: visitors can kayak, canoe, or fish there. The park also has a 10-mile mountain bike trail for advanced riders and beginners. Trail conditions may vary.

At Lincoln Parish Park, the Waterfall MTB Hub leads to five flow trails designed for riders of all ability levels. When planning, you can choose from both water-based activities and a range of mountain biking options. When looking for a vacation rental, first consider whether Ruston’s festival and cultural program should be your main focus or whether you’d also like to plan activities in the wider Lincoln Parish area.
