Another option is the 4.5-mile Jenny Wilson Byrd Memorial Trail, which connects Thelma Stovall Park with Harry Wilson Park. Caves, Springs and Unique Activities
The water from Hidden River Cave flows beneath Horse Cave and resurfaces as springs along the Green River. The cave is located 2.2 miles east of Interstate 65 at Exit 58. In the Horse Cave area, Hidden River Cave also offers adventures in an undeveloped wild cave, ziplining and rappelling at the cave entrance.
The American Cave Museum is devoted entirely to caves, karst landscapes, groundwater and cave conservation. Admission is free; the self-guided tour covers two floors with interactive exhibits. For a varied day, Kentucky Down Under is another option in the Horse Cave area: visitors can pet kangaroos and feed colorful lorikeets. At Kentucky Down Under, Camp Corroboree presents the culture of the Australian Aboriginal peoples through live demonstrations of instruments and tools, along with accompanying stories.
History and Discovering Local Places
In the Munfordville area, the main gallery of the Hart County Historical Museum covers the early lives of Native Americans, the historic Aetna Furnace, Civil War artifacts and everyday life in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Old Munfordville Walking Tour includes 13 historic buildings and sites connected with the Civil War or the founding of Munfordville.
Other unusual attractions include Kentucky Stonehenge, with its alignment to a compass rose, as well as the areas known as Earth Mysteries, Garden of Gethsemane, Rock Gardens and Rock Park. The Battle for the Bridge Historic Preserve protects Civil War fortification remains, historic sightlines, as well as the Anthony Woodson House and its associated farm. For water activities, Green River Park & Arboretum has a boat ramp for boating, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Big Buffalo Crossing Canoe & Kayak is located in Munfordville directly on the Green River and near Mammoth Cave National Park.
