The park is also the venue for the annual Miami County Fair, held during the last week of July; the fairgrounds are adjacent to Wallace Park.

Park Square and Paola’s Cultural Heritage

Park Square in downtown Paola tells part of the city’s history. Baptiste Peoria, one of the city’s founders, donated the square to the city on the condition that no building could be erected there. Today, a fountain and a Victorian pavilion are part of its appearance. The original bandstand was built in 1867, and the current pavilion was completed in 1913.

For a closer look at the history of Miami County, the Miami County Historical Museum offers interactive exhibits. Its collection also includes a large assortment of artifacts from Indigenous American cultures.
