It is housed in a preserved 1863 building with a bell tower and displays historic clothing and furnishings. Visits to the Allamakee County Veterans Museum are scheduled for Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings, as well as by appointment. The Driftless Area Education & Visitor Center is located just over a mile south of Lansing, directly along the Great River Road, beneath limestone bluffs and with scenic views of the river.
