In eastern Idaho, Teton Valley lies along the western slope of the Teton Mountain Range. The landscape offers views of the Teton Mountain Range to the east and the Big Hole Mountains to the west. A trip to Teton County can be planned around several different interests: cycling trails, hiking destinations, winter sports and towns with their own histories. When searching for a vacation rental, it may help to first consider which experiences you want to shape your stay.

Mountains, Cycling Trails and Hikes

The Cedron-Bates Teton Valley Loop is a scenic 24.8-mile cycling route. It follows country roads and a shared off-road path. This gives the route a different character from the trails at Victor Bike Park, which offer options for different skill levels, with jumps, berms and technical features.

Hiking destinations in Teton Valley also vary in length and scenery. The hike to Darby Canyon Wind Cave covers 6.1 miles round trip through forests and meadows to a large cave with a seasonal waterfall. The route to Alaska Basin via Teton Canyon is longer, at 16.6 miles round trip; along the way are lakes and wildflowers, as well as views of the Teton Mountains. The two route lengths offer a concrete comparison for planning, though the hikes do not offer the same experience of nature.

Activities in Victor and Driggs

Victor offers a range of options for active days. In addition to the trails at Victor Bike Park, Kotler Arena has a full-size ice rink for hockey and other activities. It is managed by the Teton Valley Foundation. In winter, Sherman Park offers a Nordic course and groomed trails for snow biking and walking, as well as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Winter conditions can vary by season.

Driggs offers different options: Teton Rock Gym has bouldering, top-rope and lead climbing, as well as rental equipment, lessons and climbing competitions. Mount Shredmore Park has an extensive network of natural-surface trails and a playground. If you are considering activities and where to stay together, you can include Victor and Driggs as different points of reference in your vacation rental search: Victor is home to, among other things, the bike park and arena, while Driggs has the climbing gym and park.

Local History and Getting Oriented

The Teton Valley Museum covers more than two hundred years of history. Its local history library includes nearly one thousand life and family stories, as well as thousands of digitized photographs. Topics in its history exhibits include a notorious bandit, an attacking grizzly bear, a mountain man, conflicts between Indigenous people and other groups, and the John Colter Stone. The collection brings together different stories and materials about local history.

If you want to keep your daily plans flexible, you can find a range of topics under one roof; the specific excursions you plan remain another point of reference when choosing where to stay.

Tastings, Rides and Route Planning

In Victor, the pub at Grand Teton Brewing also serves as a tasting room and retail store. Check opening hours before your visit. Linn Canyon Ranch offers bookable horseback rides and Sunset Dinner Rides; availability varies by season. The Sunset Dinner Ride combines a horseback ride with dinner, bringing together a shared experience and a culinary focus. Check current dates and availability before planning.

The Teton Scenic Byway begins on Idaho 31 at Swan Valley, runs northeast to Idaho 33 at Victor, then continues north on Idaho 32 to Idaho 47 at Ashton. Comprehensive services are available along the byway in Swan Valley, Victor, Driggs, Tetonia and Ashton. Victor, Driggs and Tetonia are also towns in Teton Valley that are easy to explore on foot. Which of these locations matters to your vacation rental search depends on which activities you want to prioritize.
