Around Troup, the landscape of West Point Lake, active trails, and a diverse cultural history come together to create a trip with a variety of ideas for each day. The lake stretches 35 miles along the Chattahoochee River on the border between Alabama and Georgia and has approximately 525 miles of shoreline. Deep forests and rolling fields characterize its surroundings. Those looking for a vacation rental in Troup can choose their accommodation based on whether water experiences, nature trails, museums, or historic sites should be the focus of their vacation.

Water, Shoreline, and Trails at West Point Lake

At West Point Lake, you can fish for bass, catfish, crappie, and bream. Various documented options are available for this: McGee Bridge Recreation Area has a fishing pier, while Sunny Point Recreation Area provides access to fishing from the shore. Horace King Park also has shoreline areas along the lake. Those traveling by private boat will find a boat ramp at Pyne Road Park Mega Ramp in Troup County Pyne Road Recreation Park. Highland Marina offers boat rentals at West Point Lake.

Several different types of trails are available for active days. The Thread is a non-motorized trail for walking, running, and cycling. The Oakfuskee Trail System offers views of West Point Lake. The Lakeside Trails extend for eleven miles through challenging terrain along the lake. In addition, there is a multi-use trail network with views of West Point Lake that is accessible to horseback riders, mountain bikers, trail runners, and hikers. Water sports enthusiasts can sail, windsurf, and operate motorboats on the lake.

The type of accommodation can also be adapted to the travel itinerary. Pyne Road Park has a public campground. In addition, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates and maintains four campgrounds at West Point Lake; registered campers can use the facilities there. For a vacation rental or vacation home, however, the key factor is which of the types of experiences described above you prefer for your travel days.
