Culture Among Farms, Mansions, and Milledgeville
A special cultural connection leads to Andalusia Farm. The 544-acre property includes farm buildings, tenant houses, a livestock pond, fields, and forests. From 1951 to 1964, Andalusia Farm was the home of Flannery O’Connor. During her 13 years at Andalusia, she completed two novels and 32 short stories that are considered part of the American Southern Gothic genre. Today, Andalusia Farm is a museum that interprets the history of the site during that period. Public tours begin at the top of every hour.
Georgia’s Old Governor’s Mansion also offers a tangible insight into the region’s history. The building was constructed in 1839 in the High Greek Revival style and served as the residence of eight Georgia governors from 1839 to 1868.
