The Villages
Accommodation in The Villages
The Villages combines unique places, extensive paths, golf and experiences on the water. Those looking to bring together different interests on their trip will find several clearly distinct focal points here: active days on the multi-modal paths, culture and entertainment on the town squares and stages, as well as guided excursions on the lakes. When searching for an apartment or vacation home, you can therefore choose your accommodation to match the experiences that are most important for your trip.
Getting around on paths, golf courses and through recreation centers
The multi-modal paths connect residential neighborhoods, recreation areas, golf courses and healthcare facilities in The Villages. They are intended for bicycles, golf carts and pedestrians; cars and motorcycles are not permitted there. This creates a separate transportation network away from motor traffic. More than 100 recreation centers in The Villages can be reached by golf cart. For orientation, they are divided into three types: regional facilities, Village Centers and neighborhood areas.
Golf also offers several options. The Executive Golf Trail provides access to more than 40 executive golf courses. In addition, The Villages offers executive golf courses and pitch-and-putt courses. A paid trail fee is required to use a golf cart on the executive golf courses.
Three town squares with their own character
The Villages has three unique, historically themed town squares. Spanish Springs Town Square is reminiscent of a Spanish town. Lake Sumter Landing Market Square is modeled on the style of a lively fishing village and is located on the shores of Lake Sumter. Brownwood Paddock Square conveys the atmosphere of an old Florida cattle town. The squares therefore offer different design themes for a walk, an evening out or a day trip.
There is live entertainment in The Villages 365 days a year. Every evening, Spanish Springs Town Square offers free entertainment with live music on an outdoor stage. For planning your trip, this means you can combine a stay with nature or golf activities and add stage performances to your daily itinerary without limiting yourself to just one type of evening entertainment.
Stages, theaters and creative programs
The performing arts venues present musicals, plays, concerts, comedy, ballet and performances by a philharmonic orchestra. The Sharon Performing Arts Center has just over 1,000 seats and presents Broadway musicals, ballet, concerts, comedy, philharmonic orchestras and operas. The Tracy Theater seats more than 800 guests and presents plays, musicals and concerts.
For smaller and more unusual formats, Encore at The Tracy Theater is designed for café-style events, poetry slams, open-mic nights and small choral concerts. The Savannah Center offers a wide variety of shows and entertainment and has just over 800 seats. The Tracy Performing Arts Center also features student productions and a diverse entertainment program. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider whether large stages, smaller event formats or a varied cultural program best suit your travel plans.
Lakes, nature and guided excursions
The waterways can be experienced in various ways. The Villages offers guided kayak tours on Central Lake, Lake Sumter and Lake Okahumpka. The Lake Sumter Line operates boat tours on Lake Sumter with wildlife viewing and views of the landscape. Guided pontoon boat excursions provide information about the environment and ecosystem. Guided catch-and-release fishing trips are also available.
Fishing is possible year-round at several scenic locations in The Villages that can be reached by golf cart. For a more peaceful time surrounded by greenery, Spanish Moss Park offers towering live oaks and views of the water. A three-quarter-mile walking path with fitness stations runs through the park. Kelsea Park offers an expansive green space for cycling and walking dogs. Sports and learning are also part of the recreational offerings: the Recreation and Parks Department manages 19 softball fields at six different locations, while the Enrichment Academy offers a wide range of classes and learning opportunities.
Choosing the right accommodation based on your travel plans
When searching for an apartment or vacation home, it is first worth asking which part of The Villages should define your stay: paths and golf, stages and town squares, lakes and guided excursions, or a combination of several areas. This keeps your selection focused on your personal itinerary without assuming a particular accommodation location or set of amenities.
If you would like to compare other places for your trip planning, you can also look at Wildwood, Lake Panasoffkee and Bushnell.
