Seminole combines extensive natural areas with hiking trails, paddling routes and paved cycling trails. Those looking for a mix of exercise, water experiences and scenery for their holiday will find several different options here for planning their trip. It is best to choose the right holiday apartment or holiday house based on which excursions are to be the focus of your stay.

Forest, River and Protected Landscapes

One prominent natural area is the Little Big Econ State Forest. It is located in Geneva in eastern Seminole County and covers approximately 11,696 acres. The Econlockhatchee River flows through the state forest for 17 miles. The river is designated as an Outstanding Florida Waterway and thus characterizes a landscape where forest and water experiences come together.

The natural landscape also includes the Little Big Econ Wildlife Management Area in southeastern Seminole County. More than 7,000 acres of protected land are preserved there. The area includes seven miles of the Little Big Econlockhatchee River as well as the surrounding floodplain forests. It is also part of a 100-mile-long wildlife corridor along the St. Johns River. These dimensions make it clear that Seminole offers not only individual excursion destinations but also extensive natural areas for a variety of holiday activities.

Hiking Trails, Cycling Routes and Tours

Hikers have access to 15.6 miles of trails in the Little Big Econ State Forest. Of these, 8.9 miles are part of the Florida National Scenic Trail. Another specific option is the Kolokee Trail: The loop trail is 5.2 miles long and part of the Trailwalker Hiking Program.

The Little Big Econ Wildlife Management Area also offers several ways to stay active. Three parking areas at trailheads provide access for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. The Seminole Wekiva Trail features an almost 14-mile-long paved recreational cycling trail. Its western section is part of the Florida National Scenic Trail. The Markham Trailhead adds restrooms, a drinking fountain, trailer parking, an equestrian paddock, a bike-washing station and a mountain bike skills course to this offering.

Water Experiences on the Econlockhatchee River

Those who want to experience Seminole from the water can include the Econlockhatchee River in their travel plans. The Econlockhatchee River Paddling Trail allows paddling for up to 20 miles to the C.S. Lee Boat Ramp on State Road 46. Fishing is also permitted year-round in the Little Big Econ Wildlife Management Area. This means that your stay can be planned either around a longer paddling trip or around peaceful hours by the water.

The different routes and activities help you organize your holiday days according to your own interests: a hike along a section of the Florida National Scenic Trail, a loop on the Kolokee Trail, a bike ride on paved surfaces or a day by the river. You should take the stated distances and routes into account when planning your individual days.

Choosing Accommodation to Match Your Travel Plans

When looking for accommodation in Seminole, it is worthwhile to determine your preferred holiday focus first. For cycling tours, the Seminole Wekiva Trail and the facilities at the Markham Trailhead are important points of reference. If hiking, horseback riding or mountain biking are the main priorities, you can include the trailhead facilities of the Little Big Econ Wildlife Management Area in your selection. For a stay focused on water activities, the paddling trail and year-round fishing offer specific ideas.

A holiday apartment or holiday house is therefore not merely a place to stay, but the starting point for the experiences you have planned. As you continue your search, check which of the natural and recreational activities mentioned above fit your preferred daily routine. For information on other destinations, you can also visit Altamonte Springs, Heathrow, Fern Park, Lake Mary, Sanford, Casselberry, Oviedo and Polk.
