Copper Mountain combines alpine trails, sporting experiences and historical traces to create a diverse destination. The Colorado Trail crosses the town from west to east near the foot of the mountain and is accessible from East Village, Center Village and West Village. When choosing a holiday apartment, it is therefore worth clarifying your own vacation priorities: Should the focus be on hikes, viewpoints, activities for different interests or the history of the region?

Hiking Between Mountain Stations and Viewpoints

The mountain roads of Copper Mountain are open to hikers and cyclists and are classified as easy terrain. A notable high-altitude route is the Alpine Overlook Trail. It begins on A-Road near the mountain stations of the Super Bee and Resolution lifts at approximately 12,000 feet. From there, the trail leads east to the viewpoint at Spaulding Bowl and west to the viewpoint at Union Bowl. The two directions therefore offer different destinations for a day in the mountain landscape.

The Hallelujah Loop is 0.75 miles long. Its starting point is at the mountain station of the American Eagle lift at 11,250 feet; the trail climbs to 11,350 feet. Anyone who prefers a guided nature hike can include Hike With A Ranger in their plans. The free tour is organized by Friends of the Dillon Ranger District, covers 3.8 miles and lasts 2.5 hours. The tour also includes a scenic ride on the Woodward Express Lift.

A Variety of Activities for Active Vacation Days

Mountain biking also offers various options: The bikes are transported uphill by chairlift, after which easy and intermediate trails are available. Center Village is also home to Woodward WreckTangle, an outdoor ninja-style obstacle course with nine different sections. Copper Mountain’s nine-hole disc golf course is freely accessible from Center Village.

For a travel group with different interests, Copper Mountain offers additional individual activities. The town has the only go-kart track in Summit County. At 9,863 feet, Copper Creek Golf Course has the highest teeing area in North America. At West Lake, you can ice skate while enjoying views of Copper Mountain and the Ten Mile Range. This makes it possible to include sporting, playful and landscape-focused experiences in your travel plans without limiting the vacation to a single activity.

Historical Traces Around Wheeler

The area’s history includes the historic settlement of Wheeler. It had a stagecoach stop until 1879 and a railway station until 1882. The Copper Mountain area was once known as Wheeler Junction. In the 1880s, a settlement was established there where miners from the copper mines lived. This local history complements today’s mountain and recreational activities with a look at the region’s earlier development.

The Right Base for Planning Your Trip

A holiday apartment in Copper Mountain can serve as a base for a vacation whose focus you determine yourself: long trails such as the Colorado Trail, short loop hikes, guided nature experiences, cycling, golf or activities in Center Village. When choosing your accommodation, consider which experiences are particularly important to your travel group and which of the starting points mentioned suits your daily itinerary. For further planning, you can also view Breckenridge, Silverthorne, Dillon, Frisco and Keystone.
