Snowmass Village combines a large ski area with an exceptional number of trails, active summer experiences, and a vibrant cultural scene. This makes the destination appealing to travelers who do not want to limit their stay to a single season or activity. Depending on the itinerary, winter sports, cycling, hiking, art, and regional traditions can be the main focus.

Winter sports and trails through the mountain landscape

The Snowmass ski area encompasses 3,300 acres of terrain and features 98 runs with a total length of 150 miles. Those looking for a vacation rental for a winter sports stay can therefore choose Snowmass Village based on their preferred range of runs without reducing the destination to its winter side.

Trails also shape the area outside the ski season. From Snowmass Village, hikers have direct access to more than 80 miles of trails. The range extends from short walks to multi-day outings. In addition, Snowmass Village has more than 34.5 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback-riding trails. For planning different daily routines, there are also 8 miles of paved and gravel commuter paths connecting residential neighborhoods, bus stops, recreational facilities, and commercial centers.

Cycling for different skill levels

The Snowmass Bike Park offers more than 25 miles of lift-accessed freeride and technical trails. The routes range from green to double black, catering to different skill levels. In summer, there is also a learning area at mid-mountain, along with classes and a bike school. This focus can be decisive when choosing accommodation: travelers who primarily want to cycle plan differently from those who want to combine short walks, art, and relaxed activities.

Additional activities complement the offerings. The Breathtaker Coaster drops more than 400 vertical feet. The Treeline Trial Challenge Course offers five routes across five different difficulty levels, while the Rugged Ascent Climbing Wall features an auto-belay system and dozens of routes with varying degrees of difficulty. Aerial Approach Disc Golf is an 18-hole course that runs from Elk Camp to Base Village. The Canopy Run Zipline Tours travel through the treetops and offer views of Snowmass.

Culture, history, and shared discoveries

Snowmass Village also has notable points of interest away from active days. Anderson Ranch Arts Center has served as the destination’s artistic and cultural center since 1966. The Snowmass Art Walk follows curated routes to public art, sculptures, and murals. The Snowmass Free Concert Series offers free concerts on Fanny Hill every Thursday as a community tradition. The Snowmass Rodeo is a long-standing weekly summer tradition featuring music, cowboys and cowgirls, horses, livestock, and family entertainment.

At Ziegler Reservoir, the landscape meets a remarkable discovery site: more than 5,000 fossils have been preserved here at the Snowmass Ice Age Discovery. The reservoir can be seen from day hikes around Snowmass, including the Discovery Trail. A hike can therefore be both a nature experience and an opportunity to learn about the area’s Ice Age history.

Guidance for choosing accommodation

Snowmass Village operates a free shuttle serving nearly every location in the Village across eight routes. This information is just as useful for planning a stay as the destination’s location: Snowmass Village is 6 miles from Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE). When searching for a vacation rental, consider whether the focus of your planned vacation is more likely to be skiing, cycling, hiking, or culture. The right choice of base then depends on your preferred daily routine and the activities you actually plan to include.

For quieter or weather-flexible days, the Snowmass Recreation Center offers admission for daily use. The recreation pool features zero-depth entry, waterfalls, jets, and a water slide. This adds another activity to the travel plans without making the stay exclusively about long excursions or the ski area.
