Discover Vineburg through its wine traditions, distinctive landscapes, and excursions with very different character. Between tastings, winery visits, flight programs, and wood-fired cuisine, there are many ways to shape a stay. The experiences you choose to focus on may also influence your choice of a vacation rental in Vineburg.

Wine History and Landscape

The family winery that became Gundlach Bundschu Winery was founded as Vineburg Wine Company. At the beginning of the 21st century, the Millers purchased Vineburg Vineyard. The ownership history of Rhinefarm Estate goes back further: it has been owned by the Bundschu family since 1858, who farm and operate the property.

Vineburg Vineyards lie on cool, wind-shaped plains and slopes in Los Carneros. Sonoma Valley also offers its own perspective on the landscape: the Mayacamas and Sonoma Mountains border the valley on both sides. On summer nights, cooling coastal fog rolls in and cools the vineyards. Wind, open plains, slopes, and nighttime cooling are specific aspects of these landscape descriptions—of interest to anyone curious not only about wine, but also about the conditions in which it is grown.

Tastings and Tours

Daily tours and tastings are offered at the Gundlach Bundschu Winery estate at 2000 Denmark Street, Sonoma, CA 95476. The Rhinefarm Tasting features a curated selection of estate-grown wines. Depending on the tasting format, it takes place in the winery courtyard or the barrel room.

The Cave & Vineyard Tour combines a visit to a wine cave carved into a hillside with a walk through the winery’s vineyard, which is farmed using regenerative organic practices. The vineyard visit is part of the tour, weather permitting. The experiences therefore differ in their specific focus: on one hand, the selected wines and tasting location; on the other, the cave and a weather-dependent vineyard visit. Since times may change, check the latest tour information before making plans.

Nearby Sonocaia Estate Winery is open by appointment only. If you would like to plan a visit, keep the appointment requirement in mind and arrange it in advance.

Other Excursions and Local Cuisine

A barbecue is held every Saturday from 12:00 to 13:00 in the clubhouse at nearby Sonoma Skypark. The Young Eagles program also offers free flights there on the second Sunday of each month from 9:30 to 11:30, weather permitting. These two activities offer different time slots for an excursion: the weekly lunchtime barbecue and the monthly morning flights. If an event determines your day’s schedule, check the latest times and weather conditions in advance.

Visitors to the nearby Valley Of The Moon Gun Club must follow specific requirements: eye and hearing protection are mandatory, ammunition supplies are limited, and guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Visitors check in at the clubhouse office between 9:00 and 12:00 and work with a certified instructor at Trap 6 or 7.

Cuisine is another possible excursion: nearby Vineburg Deli on 8th Street in Sonoma cooks tri-tip and other meats on a genuine outdoor wood-fired grill. It’s a specific addition to the wine experiences, so a visit need not be limited to a tasting.

Choose your vacation rental in Vineburg to suit the experiences you actually plan to enjoy, and take the relevant visitor requirements into account.
