Kings Beach State Recreation Area is on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Water activities, golf and historical connections give a stay here a variety of possible focuses. When choosing a vacation rental, it may therefore help to first consider which experiences you want to shape your trip.

Water Activities and Clear Rules

Fishing, surfing and windsurfing are available at Kings Beach State Recreation Area. Kayaks are rented there during the warmer months. This selection combines activities with a seasonal offering: if you plan to kayak, consider visiting during the warmer months; fishing, surfing and windsurfing are other options at the recreation area.

The Kings Beach boat launch at the end of Raccoon Street has a specific restriction: only clean and dry, non-motorized watercraft are permitted. Separately, North Tahoe Watersports offers personal watercraft at Kings Beach State Recreation Area. If you plan to use the launch for a particular purpose, keep its requirements in mind.

The lakeside spots also offer different experiences. North Tahoe Beach has 540 feet of public shoreline. Secline Beach is in Kings Beach, in a wooded area at a higher elevation; it has shaded picnic tables and barbecue grills. So, in addition to activities on the water, you can also enjoy a lakeside visit with the option of picnicking.

A Golf Course with a History

Old Brockway Golf Course has more than 3,400 yards of golf course length and two par-5 holes. Its history dates back at least to 1935, when it hosted Bing Crosby’s first “Crosby” golf tournament.

For summer 2026, “Music on the Beach” was scheduled as a concert series every Friday from late June through August at Kings Beach State Recreation Area. If you are planning for a later summer, check the dates and whether the series will continue. This means the experiences differ not only by interest, but also by when they take place.

Getting Around During Your Stay

In the Kings Beach Commercial Core, the North Lake Tahoe Parking Management Program aims to ensure parking turnover for businesses. Since parking rules can change, check the current requirements before leaving your car there.

Kings Beach is served by Tahoe and Truckee Area Regional Transit (TART). The free public transit system connects the town with Tahoe City, Crystal Bay, Truckee and Northstar, among other destinations. Check routes and schedules again before your trip. TART Connect also provides on-demand, curb-to-curb service within its Kings Beach service zone. Service zones and operating hours vary seasonally; check these before your trip as well.

When looking for a vacation rental in Kings Beach, you can use your planned daily routine as a guide: water sports, golf and events offer different ways to spend your time. Seasonal offerings such as kayak rentals and the concert program scheduled for 2026 also make the timing of your trip part of the decision.
