June Lake in California combines a lake, a distinctive scenic road and a wide range of experiences centered around the water and mountains. June Mountain Ski Area is located in June Lake. Travelers with different interests can therefore choose between a day at the beach, a boating excursion, a scenic drive, a fishing experience, a hike and winter sports. When searching for a vacation rental, the key question is which of these focuses should shape the stay.

Water Experiences at June Lake and Gull Lake

The approximately 1.5-mile-long June Lake offers opportunities for canoeing, kayaking and sailing. A beach with soft sand and a swimming area lies on the eastern shore of the lake. This makes it possible to enjoy a stay by the water in different ways: You can experience the lake from a boat or plan a day at the beach. June Lake covers approximately 320 acres, making it a clearly recognizable focal point of the landscape.

Gull Lake also offers options for an excursion on the water. Gull Lake Marina next to Gull Lake Park offers 16-foot skiffs, 18- and 24-foot pontoon boats, pedal boats, canoes and kayaks. Those interested in fishing will find another specific destination at Rush Creek: The stream flows to June Lake, past Gull Lake, Silver Lake and Grant Lake, and on into Mono Lake. Along the June Lake Loop, Rush Creek can be accessed from the road and is especially popular with fly-fishers.

The June Lake Loop as a Scenic Experience

The June Lake Loop is a 14-mile-long, paved, two-lane road. It passes four lakes: June Lake, Gull Lake, Silver Lake and Grant Lake. For planning your day, this length is a useful point of reference. The horseshoe-shaped June Lake Loop is also an illustrative example of glacial geology. The four lakes were formed when the Rush Creek Glacier split against the resistant rock of Reversed Peak.

Those who want to explore the landscape on foot can consider the Rush Creek Trail. The trail runs along a ridge above Silver Lake and the scenic June Lake Loop. This means that different ways of experiencing the same destination are available side by side: a drive along the paved loop, time at the lake and a hike above Silver Lake.
