Bass Lake combines a pine-lined reservoir with a variety of opportunities for active and relaxing vacation days. The lake sits at an elevation of 3,400 feet, and in summer its surface water warms to about 75°F. Bass Lake is also approximately a half-hour drive south of the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park. If you are looking for accommodation for a trip with varied daily plans, you will find water activities as well as short and longer trails, cultural insights, and a special connection to the landscape here.

Water at Bass Lake and a Convenient Starting Point

The Bass Lake Boat Ramp is a public boat ramp and one of the obvious points of access for anyone who wants to include the lake in their travel plans. Wishon Campground is located across from Bass Lake. The location of these two places also reflects the character of the surrounding area: The lake is not merely a scenic backdrop but shapes the possible focus of a day. When choosing your vacation rental or vacation home, you can therefore consider whether you mainly want to spend time by the water or use Bass Lake as a starting point for various excursions.

Short Trails and More Challenging Hikes

The Way of the Mono Trail offers a manageable 0.6-mile loop. It leads to a rock with great views and offers opportunities for bouldering. Information panels along the trail also provide insights into the Mono way of life and traditions, as well as their close connection to the land. This trail thus combines exercise, scenery, and history without requiring you to plan the same amount of time as you would for a longer hike.

Those who prefer a more challenging route can plan a hike to the Goat Mountain Fire Lookout. This is a difficult 5-mile out-and-back route. Another option is the Willow Creek Trail, a moderate three-mile hike. These different routes help you shape the trip according to your preferred pace: The short loop has its own distinctive character, while the two longer hikes allow more room for an active day.

A Day of Swimming, a Picnic, and Local Culture

The Falls Beach day-use area at Bass Lake has barbecue facilities, picnic tables, and drinking water. It also offers places to play and swim. For a more relaxed vacation day, you can alternate these amenities with the area's hikes and viewpoints.

Bass Lake was created by the construction of the 145-foot-high Crane Valley Dam across Willow Creek, a tributary of the San Joaquin River. Art is also part of the local scenery: Bass Lake is part of the Community Art Banner Trail. Banners featuring local art line the streets of the communities each year from Memorial Day weekend through ARTober. In this way, the natural landscape is complemented by a visible cultural tradition.
