Bell
Accommodation in Bell
Bell combines community recreation with historic homes and a bike path along the Los Angeles River. If you’re traveling with children, parks and programs can be a focus; cycling and local history offer other ways to explore the area. When looking for a vacation rental, it helps to first consider which of these interests will shape your trip.
Parks and Programs for Different Interests
The City of Bell’s Recreation and Social Services Division operates four recreation centers and five parks. It offers classes, programs, and events for children, adults, and seniors. Youth programs are for children from ten months to twelve years old. Since offerings may change, check the city’s current listings before your trip.
In December 2024, the City of Bell and KABOOM! collaborated to create a new community playground at Treder Park. An outdoor pavilion there can also be reserved for gatherings and events with up to 150 guests. If you’re planning a gathering, check the reservation requirements in advance. The playground and pavilion serve different planning ideas: a visit to the park and an event.
The Junior Chef program at Camp Little Bear Park offers something different: it takes place in a fully equipped kitchen and provides hands-on cooking lessons. This specific cooking class adds a very different activity to the recreation options at the parks.
Ernest Debs Park is the center of youth soccer in Bell; its soccer field can be rented for practice, leagues, and tournaments. If you’re planning to use it, check the rental requirements in advance. Veterans Memorial Park, in turn, serves as a memorial: it is dedicated to the courage and service of the nation’s veterans. It is also home to Bell’s youth baseball program, which is run in partnership with Dodgers Dreamteam.
Bike Path and Getting There
A bike path runs along the Los Angeles River in Bell. If you’d like to include cycling in your stay, you can consider it a practical point of reference for your interest in Bell. Nearby parks, the cooking program, and youth offerings provide other areas of focus; you can plan your trip around the activities that interest you most.
Bell is close to Interstates 5 and 710. This is a helpful reference point when planning your route. Also factor in the specific location of your accommodation so it suits the activities you have planned for your stay.
Historic Homes and Local History
The J. G. Bell House, also known as Bell Mansion, was built in 1876. For Bell Home, by contrast, its relocation is the defining historical detail: around 1900, it was moved from near the intersection of Gage Avenue and California Avenue to its current location. The two houses therefore represent different aspects of local history—the construction date of one and the relocation of the other. If you’re interested in historic sites, these details offer two specific points of interest without telling the same story.
Practical Places to Visit
The Bell Community Center has a community room for celebrations, meetings, and conferences, with space for up to 160 people; reservations can be made in person. If you plan to use the room, check the reservation requirements before arriving.
While the Bell Library is being renovated, the Bell Express Library is open as an alternate location. Check the current library notice before visiting. This lets you include the library in your plans while taking the current renovation period into account.
