Humboldt
Accommodation in Humboldt
Humboldt brings local history and diverse cultures to life in many ways: through murals and sculptures, on a tour of the historic downtown, and even along the lanes of a family-friendly mini golf course. There are also opportunities for children and parents to discover things together. Which of these experiences you want to shape your trip may also influence your choice of a vacation rental in Humboldt.
Discover Local Art and History
Public art in Humboldt tells stories of history, local life, and different cultures. A striking example is Old Saskatchewan: the series comprises twelve murals by artist Urban Lukan in the Humboldt Downtown Business Improvement District. The Humboldt & District Gallery also makes its own mark, showcasing about six art installations each year. It also has a free area for hands-on craft activities.
Another stop with an artistic and historical connection is the Humboldt & District Heritage Garden. It was created in 2005 as part of a regional centennial art project. The project recognized women's contributions to life on the Prairies over the past 100 years. In Humboldt, you can encounter various forms of public art: downtown murals, sculptures and installations, and a garden created for an explicitly historical purpose.
The Humboldt Mini Golf Course combines recreation with local themes. The family-friendly course has 18 holes depicting local businesses, historic landmarks, and other highlights. These include the water tower, the Humboldt Museum, and images of German heritage. If you're traveling with children, you can plan a shared activity here; as you play, you'll also encounter familiar Humboldt themes.
On Foot, by Bike, or on a Guided Tour
For a self-guided walk through the historic downtown, consider the Walking Tour of Historic Downtown Humboldt. It starts at the museum and takes you to historic buildings in the town center. The Humboldt & District Gallery also offers a self-guided tour of notable places in Humboldt, which you can complete on foot or by bike. These are two different ways to explore the area independently.
The Humboldt & District Museum also has offerings for families: scavenger hunts give children and parents an additional activity during a museum visit. For a special view, take a tour of the historic Humboldt Water Tower. Climb more than 140 steps to reach a 360-degree view. Private tours of the water tower should be arranged with the museum at least one week in advance. The Humboldt & District Museum also offers a tour with homemade ice cream; contact the museum for details.
Disc golf enthusiasts will find a dedicated course at St. Elizabeth Park. Another option outside town is Original Humboldt: the self-guided site features art installations, interpretive panels, and grass pathways. It is 8 km west of Humboldt on Highway 5 and 3 km south on Telegraph Road.
Choose the Right Base
Humboldt is located on Highways 5 and 20. When choosing accommodation, consider whether you plan to focus mainly on attractions in town or also visit Original Humboldt. The fact that the self-guided site is outside Humboldt is another factor to consider. If you're interested in the town's history and art, the downtown tour, murals, and gallery offer different ways to explore; for activities to enjoy with children, mini golf and scavenger hunts are other specific options.
