Discover Lanigan: Water, Culture and Sports
Accommodation in Lanigan
Lanigan offers a range of reasons to visit: the Waterpark features swimming and a long waterslide, alongside annual festivals, a Heritage Centre, and a variety of sports facilities. You can plan your trip around whether you and your family want to enjoy water and activities, explore history and culture, or take part in sports.
Water and Festivals
The Lanigan & District Waterpark has a 4,000-square-foot Junior Olympic-sized swimming pool and a 148-foot waterslide. Its offerings include public swim times, night swimming, and aquafitness. This gives you several ways to spend time in the water, from swimming and watersliding to fitness activities. Families may also enjoy Celebrate Lanigan, a three-day annual festival held every June that includes a children's midway with games, rides, and activities. The festival also features fireworks.
Celebrate Lanigan provides a seasonal festival highlight, while the Waterpark offers several swimming options. When planning your travel dates, you might consider visiting in June for the festival; Lanigan also offers cultural and sporting activities at other times.
Local History and Culture
The Lanigan & District Heritage Centre is located in the old CPR railway station, a historic site. Exhibits include a caboose and a CPR dispatch office. Visitors interested in railway and local history will find a different focus here than at the recreational and sports facilities. The Historic Carlton Trail is also part of the area's history: it lies just east of Lanigan and was once an important route for early pioneers and traders.
Music is another part of the cultural scene. The Lanigan & District Music Festival provides a platform for musicians of all ages and takes place each year in March or early April. Another seasonal event is the farmers' market at the Heritage Centre: it runs every Wednesday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., from July 1 through early October. This provides a recurring summer and early-fall event alongside the annual music festival.
Sports Throughout the Year
The Lanigan Recreation Complex has an ice rink where you can reserve ice time. The Lanigan & District Curling Rink has four artificial-ice sheets and a licensed lounge. This lets you choose between skating and curling based on your interests. The GG Sportsground has two regulation-size baseball and fastball diamonds, a soccer field, and a running track. The range of facilities accommodates several sports, so you don't have to plan your trip around just one activity.
Golf and Camping
The Lanigan Golf and Country Club has a 9-hole course with grass greens. Its clubhouse includes a pro shop, a licensed restaurant, a grill area, and a meeting room. The course is adjacent to a fully serviced campground. In addition, the Lanigan Golf Course Campground has 33 tree-lined sites. Some sites have electrical and water hookups; the campground also offers washrooms, showers, a playground, and fire pits.
When choosing a vacation rental or holiday home in Lanigan, first consider what matters most to you: the water park and festival, history and music, skating and team sports, or golf and camping. The offerings give your trip different possible focuses; choose your accommodation to suit your own plans.
