In Hérouxville, a variety of recreational activities meet opportunities to experience nature and history. At Domaine Tavibois, lakes and forests are part of the landscape, alongside water activities and trails for hiking and mountain biking. The facilities at Centre des loisirs Alexandre Massicotte also offer various ways to enjoy active days. If you’re looking for a vacation rental in Hérouxville, consider which of these aspects of the area you’d like to shape your stay.

Routes for Cycling, ATVs and Snowmobiles

For an ATV trip, year-round section 455 of the regional network runs south through the Lac-à-la-Tortue sector to the regional and provincial Trans-Québec network. To the north, it extends as far as Saint-Joseph-de-Mékinac. The two directions offer different connections within the network—a useful starting point when choosing your route based on where you want to go.

Two snowmobile trails also cross Hérouxville. Trail 318 connects Saint-Tite with Shawinigan. Trail 351 provides access to Saint-Tite to the north; to the south, it leads to the Trans-Québec network via Shawinigan or Saint-Prosper. These route descriptions offer specific guidance when choosing a trip and its direction. Year-round operation is explicitly stated for ATV section 455; this does not automatically apply to the snowmobile trails.

For cycling, there is a bike path along Route 153 between Rangs Saint-Pierre and de la Grande-Ligne. Mountain biking and hiking are also offered at Domaine Tavibois. When planning, you can therefore choose between riding on the described bike path and getting active on the Domaine grounds, without treating them as a single route.

Nature and Activities at Domaine Tavibois

The natural grounds of Domaine Tavibois cover more than 80 acres and include lakes and forests. Canoeing, kayaking and pedal boating are available on site; wildlife watching is also among the activities. This gives you a choice of spending time on the water, observing nature or getting active on land. Which of these options you prioritize can also help you find suitable accommodation for your stay in Hérouxville.

On-site activities include hiking and mountain biking. Performances are also part of the Domaine’s recreational and cultural offerings. There are also 21 rental chalets on the property. These belong to Domaine Tavibois and are a separate accommodation option within the area’s offerings. If you’d like to combine different interests during the day, you can make the Domaine’s nature and recreational activities a focus of your trip and add other activities in Hérouxville.

Recreational Activities for Different Interests

Centre des loisirs Alexandre Massicotte has a tennis and pickleball court, pétanque facilities, a BMX track and skateboarding facilities. During the summer season, the Centre has an outdoor swimming pool; during the winter season, it has an outdoor skating rink. The seasonal offerings are distinct: the outdoor pool is an option for a summer stay, while the skating rink is available in winter.

The Centre also has play structures and swings for children. This makes its facilities worth considering when planning a family trip, without requiring everyone to choose the same activities: some may be interested in ball games or pétanque, while others can check out the BMX track or skateboarding facilities. Parc Solange-Fernet-Gervais adds to the options with a bike rack, a stretching station and a pavilion accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Historic Traces

At Domaine Tavibois, visitors can see a log chapel that recalls the period of colonization. The grounds also contain the remains of an old sawmill and an old blacksmith’s shop. The Domaine has outstanding heritage value. These features give a visit a historical dimension that differs from the nature and sports activities.

Another historic site is the Forges St-Joseph-de-St-Tite ironworks site on the banks of the Petite Rivière Mékinac. It is considered a site of historical interest. The ironworks is believed to have operated around 1870 to 1872 and to have consisted of blast furnaces and charcoal kilns. The site thus points to a different history than the colonization recalled by the log chapel at Domaine Tavibois.

If you’d like to consider other places while planning your trip, you can also find Saint-Stanislas-de-Champlain, Trois-Rives, Lac-aux-Sables, St-Tite and Saint-Roch-de-Mékinac here.
