In Les Éboulements, forested highlands meet the shoreline of the St. Lawrence River. Summer hikes, winter snowshoeing and a cross-country ski center make the area appealing in different seasons. There are also village walks, artists’ studios and historic buildings. When planning your stay, you can decide whether nature, outdoor activities or culture will be its main focus.

Forests, highlands and winter activities

At Vallons des Éboulements, narrow forest trails follow the Rivière du Seigneur through a landscape described as idyllic and charming. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are possible in this area. If you mainly want to spend time outdoors, you’ll find these specific winter activities alongside general hiking opportunities in summer. There is also a cross-country ski center.

Mont des Éboulements rises to more than 760 meters and is considered a central point of the Charlevoix impact crater. The natural environment features different landscape zones: boreal forest grows in the highlands, mixed forest extends toward the St. Lawrence River, and salt marshes lie near the tidal flats. The area is also home to diverse flora and fauna, as well as numerous bird species. The changes between highland forest, mixed forest and shoreline areas offer nature lovers different facets of the region.

Village walks and trails through the landscape

The municipal guide features three village walks in Les Éboulements and Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive. These walks through the town centers offer a chance to observe the tides and the shoreline’s flora and fauna. You can also discover numerous galleries and artists’ studios along the way. The walks combine nature watching with a glimpse of the artistic life of both town centers.

Another option is the Sentier de la Forêt marine / La Seigneurie. It runs along a mountainside between upper Les Éboulements and the Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive sector. Access points are at Domaine de la Seigneurie near Route du Fleuve and in the Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive sector. If you include this trail in your plans, you can use these access areas as reference points.

Route du Fleuve, Route 362, also runs through the village and offers views of the region’s rugged landscape. It is a distinctive landmark for navigating the area; the mountainside trail, village walks and road each offer a different way to experience the landscape and town centers.

Historic places and culture

The Musée maritime de Charlevoix is located on the former schooner-building site in the Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive sector. If you’re interested in the region’s history, you can include the museum as a cultural highlight in your travel plans.

The Moulin seigneurial des Éboulements stands on the banks of the Rivière du Seigneur above a 30-meter-high waterfall, near the intersection of Route du Port and Route du Fleuve. It is a white grain mill and one of the last watermills still operating in Québec. The Moulin banal des Éboulements, which is designated a historic monument, is a separate mill.

The Parcours patrimonial des Éboulements runs from Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive through the town center of Les Éboulements to Cap-aux-Oies, showcasing preserved historic architecture. Along with the galleries, studios, museum and mills, it offers several different points of interest for visitors interested in culture, rather than focusing on just one building.
