Along the Voie Verte on the Gatineau River

The Voie Verte Chelsea is an active transportation route through the community. It was developed from a former railway line and offers an opportunity to experience nature in Chelsea. At 22 km long, it is a specific distance to keep in mind when planning your day. The route thus connects the line’s former use with its current role as a trail.

Along the Voie Verte near Chemin Gleneagle are sculptures of native animals. Yvan Xavier Regout created them from remnants of the former railway. Gardens, ruins and museums at the Mackenzie King Estate

The Mackenzie King Estate in Chelsea features English and French gardens, historic ruins, trails and museums. Hiking and mountain biking trails start at parking lot P6 at the Mackenzie King Estate from spring through fall. The Kingswood and Moorside cottages are museums with exhibits of artifacts and interpretive information panels. The estate offers a range of cultural perspectives: its gardens and ruins shape the setting, as do the exhibits in the two cottages.

Those particularly interested in gardens and historic ruins will find different themes at the estate than in the exhibits of artifacts and information panels. Gatineau Park and seasonal parkways

Gatineau Park also extends into Chelsea. Its many entrances lead to the visitor centre and the main activity hubs, which are generally accessible by private vehicle, bicycle or on foot. Old Chelsea is one of the park’s busiest areas. If you include the park in your trip, you can orient yourself around these areas and the available modes of transportation.

Special traffic conditions apply to the central parkways between Gatineau and Chelsea: access by private vehicles is restricted. From May to October, a free shuttle runs there six days a week. In winter, the parkways serve as cross-country ski trails and are closed to vehicles. The season is therefore an important factor when planning time on these parkways: cross-country skiing is the main activity in winter, while shuttle service is available from May to October.
