In Pointe-aux-Trembles, long trails through a former railway corridor meet cultural history and places along the St. Lawrence River. Parc de la Traversée, the historic windmill and Plage de l’Est each represent a different side of the neighbourhood. If you’d like to balance outdoor activities, exploring and time by the water during your stay, this mix offers some specific places to start.

Trails through Parc de la Traversée

Parc de la Traversée is a year-round linear park on a former railway line, crossing a large part of Pointe-aux-Trembles. In summer, it includes a 4.25-kilometre walking trail and a 4.25-kilometre cycling trail. You can explore the park on foot or by bicycle; the two routes are the same length, so you can choose how to get around according to your preference.

There are four rest stops along the park. They’re designed for taking a break, having a light meal or enjoying the scenery, and provide possible stopping points along this linear green space. In winter, a municipal cross-country ski trail is set up in Parc de la Traversée. The activities mentioned there therefore vary by season: walking and cycling are the main options in summer, with cross-country skiing added in winter.

Riverside and activities at Plage de l’Est

Plage de l’Est is a place on the St. Lawrence River set aside for leisure and recreation. A steel-and-wood pier starts near the service pavilion and extends toward the river. The site also has two beach volleyball courts. If outdoor activity is part of your stay, these facilities offer different options without promising the same experience.

The water sports centre at Plage de l’Est offers kayak rentals and supervised water activities. The pier, volleyball courts and water-based activities give the site several distinct focal points. If you’d like to include activities on the river in your trip, you can take these offerings into account when choosing a holiday rental that suits the kind of vacation you want.

Cultural history and public art

The Vieux-Moulin de Pointe-aux-Trembles windmill was built between 1719 and 1721 and is one of Québec’s oldest windmills. It has been classified as archaeological heritage since 1983. Cultural events are held at Vieux-Moulin, mainly in summer. Parc du Vieux-Moulin was restored and developed as a public space, with cultural features for educational and community activities; its enhancement was completed in 2008.

You can learn more about the neighbourhood’s history at Maison Antoine-Beaudry, which is classified as a historic monument and located in Parc Marcel-Léger on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. Its programme includes exhibitions, performances, conferences and outdoor activities. The cultural offering thus ranges from the historic windmill to the different types of programming at the Maison.

Place du Village-de-la-Pointe-aux-Trembles also brings together art and public events: a monumental artwork stands at the entrance, and the multimedia work Cité Mémoire La Pointe de l'Île is projected onto the ground of the square. Visitors will also find numerous events there. A BIXI station is located on the square.

This way, finding a holiday rental in Pointe-aux-Trembles can be guided by your travel interests rather than by a single excursion spot.

If you’d like to discover more destinations, you’ll also find Mont-Royal, Dorval and Westmount here.
