Several rooms are arranged as they might have been when the Bishop family lived there. This connects Bishop’s life story with the house that now accommodates the museum.

The Community Waterfront Heritage Centre also links local history with a historic building: it is housed in the former CN train station on Owen Sound’s waterfront. Exhibits include artefacts, scale models and archival photographs, with interactive stations adding to the displays. The Wiidosendiwag Walking Together Tour offers another way to learn about history. It takes in five locations marked by sculptures and features audio stories about the significance of the land and culture, as well as stories of residential schools.

Walks Between Parkland and Harbour

For a walk through deciduous forest and open parkland, try the Harrison Park Loop: this easy 1.5-kilometre trail follows paved nature paths along the Sydenham River. The Owen Sound Waterfront Trail is another option. It runs for 3 kilometres along the harbour, from Kelso Beach Park to the city’s eastern boat launch. Historic interpretive panels along the route offer insights into the past.

Two named long-distance trails are also connected with Owen Sound: the Bruce Trail passes through the city, while a section of the Tom Thomson Trail runs along the eastern shore of Owen Sound. Together with the shorter Harrison Park Loop and Waterfront Trail, they offer different ways to include walks in your trip. The routes vary in length and in the settings described; the Harrison Park Loop is specifically described as easy.
