Little Current
Accommodation in Little Current
Little Current shows its character on the water: the Swing Bridge, waterfront areas and trails offer different perspectives on the town. At Low Island Park, the beach area, swimming dock, splash pad and playground come together; the waterfront trail and downtown offer other ways to shape your stay. This lets you choose different focuses for your trip—from activity along the waterfront to views of the bridge and a stroll through downtown.
Bridge, Waterfront and Views
The Little Current Swing Bridge is the only road connection to Manitoulin Island. It is also designated as an Ontario Heritage Bridge under the name Little Current Heritage Swing Bridge. These features make it a notable landmark in town: it serves a specific role in road traffic and holds a recognized historic status. Those interested in Little Current can therefore consider the bridge both as part of the town’s local layout and from a heritage perspective.
Two parks and the Downtown Docks offer different perspectives on the town. From Turner Park, views extend to the Swing Bridge, downtown and the waterfront. The Port of Little Current’s Downtown Docks are centrally located, close to recreational facilities and the waterfront trail. The Little Current Swing Bridge and the LaCloche Mountains form the backdrop there. The viewpoints described offer different perspectives: from Turner Park, you can also see downtown and the waterfront, while the bridge and mountains form the scenery at the docks.
Getting Around by the Water
The Little Current Recreational Walking Trail is about 7 kilometres long in total and can be walked in full or in sections. It runs from the Information Centre along the waterfront and the Downtown Docks to downtown Little Current. This means you can include the entire route or individual sections, depending on the walk you have planned. Low Island Park is also connected to the linear waterfront trail. Together, the park, trail and downtown offer several specific points of interest for a day focused on being active and visiting places by the water.
Several clearly designated areas come together at Low Island Park: the beach area and swimming dock sit alongside the splash pad and playground. Families can take these different amenities into account when choosing activities to enjoy together, without limiting the park to a single use.
Downtown and Surroundings
A farmers’ market takes place on Saturday mornings on Water Street in downtown Little Current. The market adds a set day of the week and a specific location to the town’s other downtown attractions. Just outside Little Current is McLean’s Mountain Lookout. From there, you can enjoy views of the North Channel and Wabuno Channel, with the LaCloche Mountains on the horizon. The destination’s surroundings therefore offer a choice of waterfront and downtown views, as well as a lookout outside town.
When looking for a vacation rental in Little Current, you can consider which of these experiences you want to prioritize during your stay: the waterfront trail, parks, views of the bridge and mountains, or the Saturday morning market. These interests can help you assess Little Current as a destination for your travel group and decide on your preferred mix of activity, local views and a downtown visit.
