Deep River is set in a natural environment on the banks of the Ottawa River. A 4 km walking loop in the town center connects Lamure Beach and a cedar forest with sections along the riverbank. There are also opportunities for sailing and rowing, hiking trails, winter sports, and theater. When planning your vacation rental, you can consider which side of the town you want to shape your stay.

Walking between the beach, forest, and river

The Deep River Walking Tour begins at the sandy Lamure Beach and then passes through a cedar forest. It continues along the Ottawa River to Centennial Rock and the Deep River Marina before returning to Lamure Beach. At 4 km long, the loop offers a defined route for a walk through the town center. Deep River also has multi-use trails and beautiful beaches.

The marina is on the Ottawa River in Deep River, Ontario, and provides access to nearly 500 km of navigable waterways. The river and waterways are as much a part of the town’s character as its land trails. For those interested in a waterfront stay, the Deep River Marina is an important hub for local recreational activities.

Water activities and things to do on land

The Deep River Shoreline Sports Club, formerly known as the Deep River Yacht & Tennis Club, offers a junior sailing school and junior court programs. Other activities include pickleball, tennis, sailing, and rowing. The different activities suit different interests, from getting out on the water to racquet sports. For families, the junior programs provide a specific point of interest, though this does not necessarily mean they are suitable for every age group.

Golf is another local option. The Deep River Golf Club is located on Highway 17 at the entrance to town and is a nine-hole course designed by Stanley Thompson. If you don’t want to focus your trip solely on water or winter sports, golf is another activity to consider as part of the destination.

Winter sports in and near Deep River

The Mount Martin Ski Club operates 12 downhill runs, including a glade run and two terrain parks. Within the town of Deep River, the club is served by a T-bar lift. A heated chalet with a snack bar gives visitors a place to warm up and relax while skiing during the day or at night. This downhill skiing area is a separate option from the cross-country skiing facilities.

The Deep River Cross Country Ski Club maintains 20 km of groomed trails within the town. The club offers a Jack Rabbit program for children, a racing program for youth, and lessons for adults. Other amenities include equipment rentals, tours, a heated chalet, and a wilderness cabin. Participants can also compete in the Silver Spoon Ski Fest and club championships. These offerings range from lessons and tours to competitions and cater to different kinds of cross-country skiing.

Nearby, east of Deep River and on both sides of Balmer Bay Road beyond the hospital, are the Silver Spoon Cross Country Ski Trails. The trail network is 30 km long, of which 20 km are groomed and track-set. These trails differ in length and location from the 20 km of groomed trails within the town. Mount Martin in Québec, with a 5 km hiking trail, lies on the opposite side of Deep River.

Culture and planning a trip to suit you

The Deep River Players stage performances two to three times a year and hold public workshops. This adds a cultural option to the outdoor activities. If you’re looking for a vacation rental in Deep River, the mix you’re after could help you decide: riverbanks and walking trails, club activities on the water, winter sports, or theater.
