White Sands is located on the southeast shore of Buffalo Lake. The lake covers an area of 124 km², or 55 square miles. The Summer Village has 5 km of natural, untouched shoreline and 4 km of natural beach. The lake, shoreline and beach give this holiday destination a distinctive waterfront character. If you want Buffalo Lake to be part of your vacation, White Sands is a natural starting point for choosing your destination and a suitable vacation rental.

Beach, swimming and water activities

The Summer Village’s beaches have eight public access points, open to residents and visitors. There are also several designated swimming areas. A boat launch is also available to residents and visitors. When planning your trip, you can consider whether the beach, swimming, water sports or the boat launch will be most important to you.

The waters of Buffalo Lake near White Sands are suitable for wakeboarding, water skiing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and canoeing. The options range from board sports to various forms of paddling. Families can decide together which of these water activities they would like to make part of their vacation plans. The range of options makes the lake a specific focus when choosing a holiday destination, without requiring a set daily itinerary.

Winter trails and nature watching

Winter brings its own opportunities, too: when there is snow, you can explore scenic trails in White Sands on snowshoes or cross-country skis. Snowmobiling is also possible in winter. So if you are considering a trip during the colder months, you will find winter activities here alongside the lake and its water activities. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are specifically dependent on snowfall.

White Sands also offers opportunities for stargazing and watching the Northern Lights. These nature experiences complement activities on the water and in the snow, offering another way to enjoy the surroundings. If nature watching is important to you, you can consider it alongside the activities you are thinking of including in your stay in White Sands.

Family and community offerings

White Sands has a playground. The Stettler Public Library has also held programs at White Sands Hall. These included “Come for a Byte” and the “Summer Reading Program” for children aged five and up; the programs took place on Wednesdays in July and August. For families, these offer different glimpses of local life: a playground in the village and specific library programs that were offered there.

The White Sands Community Hall Society provides a rental space for family and social events. The multipurpose room at White Sands Community Hall can accommodate 75 people with tables and chairs, or 90 people with chairs. The two capacities refer to different seating arrangements. The White Sands Hall Society also uses proceeds from bottle donations to fund social events, including a Canada Day celebration.
