Chaek: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Chaek is located in a narrow mountain valley, surrounded by the steep ridges of the Inner Tian Shan. The Jumgal District lies entirely within the Inner Tian Shan and features mountainous terrain above 2,000 metres. Getting there

Culture

The Jumgal Regional History Museum is dedicated to the region’s notable people and displays artefacts and photographs of significant local residents. The Arab Mausoleums are located in the foothills north of Chayek. Arabic inscriptions and stylised architecture are described as indications of an origin on the Silk Road in the 17th century.

The Kalyk Akiev Musical Drama Theatre in Chayek was founded in 1937. During 2024, it hosted theatrical festival events for 3,362 spectators. The building was described as unsafe on 21 February 2022; entry was prohibited based on a decision by the Ministry of Emergency Situations from 2013.

Jumgal-Ata is located approximately 7 km east of Chayek and is described as a sacred site with a mausoleum, springs, trees, a place for pilgrims and a mosque. Visitors are described as praying, spending the night and drinking water from the site there; a place used for prayer there is called Kamyr.

Nature

Several small alpine lakes are described around Chayek. Sary-Köl is described as a place where one stops at a high-altitude lake and hikes through alpine meadows and green passes. Inexperienced hikers and climbers are advised to seek a local guide in the alpine lake area around Chayek. The higher-altitude terrain around Chayek is described as an area offering panoramic views. Routes

A mountain bike route to Son-Kul via the Kara-Keche Pass runs from Chayek to Tash-Dobo. A cycling descent through the Kekemeren Gorge runs from Suusamyr to Chayek. Destination Jumgal has created 10 horse-riding routes and 12 hiking routes, which have been included in an international tourist map.

Panorama Hill can be reached via an easy 30-minute walk along a bumpy road that passes the Tagai Guesthouse and a local kok-boru field. From Panorama Hill, views extend across the village of Chayek and the Jumgal Valley.
