Jvari: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Enguri Hydropower Dam is located in the city of Jvari, in the narrow canyon of the Enguri River. The Enguri HPP comprises a cascade of hydropower plants as well as around 400 tunnels and canals; the longest tunnel or canal is approximately 15 kilometres long. The Enguri HPP complex extends from the city of Jvari to the Black Sea.

Culture

The Enguri Arch Dam has been in operation since 1978 and is 271.5 metres high. In 2015, it was granted the status of an industrial heritage site of national importance. In 2022, the Enguri Dam was also included in the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

Jvari is home to the 15th-century Omune Fortress, known as Omunes Jikha. Omune Fortress is a three-storey square structure.

Tours

Enguri Attraction offers guided walks as well as short and full tours. The guided walk includes views of the Enguri Dam from a viewing platform. Visitors can explore the facilities of the Enguri Arch Dam and learn about generating energy from hydropower there.

The short tour uses bus transport and offers a guide service in Georgian and English. The full tour includes a tunnel on level 315.

Reservoir and Landscape

The Enguri (Jvari) Reservoir is a nearby attraction associated with Jvari. It is 30 kilometres long, while the Jvari Reservoir reaches a depth of 226 metres. The Enguri Arch Dam is located in the landscape of northwestern Georgia.

The forests around the Jvari Reservoir are associated with tourism in the municipality of Tsalenjikha. The right bank of the Jvari Reservoir is connected to the limestone massif near Potskho in the municipality of Tsalenjikha.
