Mankivka: Moorland and birdlife in the surrounding area
Accommodation in Man'kivka
Mankivka is located near the Malopereshchepynskyi Botanical Nature Reserve. The area, covering around 640 hectares, lies between Mala Pereshchepyna and Mankivka. It is a valuable habitat, particularly for birds. The available information describes nature and the history of research, but does not identify an approved trail or tourist access through sensitive marshland.
Nature Reserve and Wildlife
The Malopereshchepynske Moor was protected before the war, first as a nature reserve and later as a botanical nature reserve of national importance. The landscape preserves a plant and animal life that has changed little over thousands of years. Such statements underscore its conservation value; they are not an invitation to leave permitted paths.
Poltava naturalist M. I. Gavrylenko studied the wildlife of the moor over several decades and repeatedly made small zoological discoveries. He also found an Indian reed warbler nesting there. Historically, a large breeding colony of pied avocets existed on the salt meadows near the moor: in different years, 80 to 120 pairs were counted, and at times up to 160. These figures relate to past observations and should not be taken as current population numbers or a guarantee of sightings.
Location and Getting There
The C171613 road between Prystantsiine and Mankivka is listed as seven kilometres long. Another route between Mankivka and Novi Sanzhary covers 17.2 kilometres and includes asphalt-concrete, paved and unpaved sections; some sections were in need of repair. These descriptions are not current traffic or safety updates. Check the route and local conditions before travelling.
If you choose Mankivka as your starting point, consider the nature reserve a nearby destination, not a park within the village. Find out about the applicable conservation rules and accessible observation points. Compare accommodation based on its actual address and access route, without assuming that the village name means immediate access to the moor.
