Kremenchuk can be explored through its green spaces and layered history: a city garden dating from 1787, a large park on the Dnipro, geological natural monuments and buildings from several centuries each offer a different perspective. The city’s history, churches, aviation and industry are also among the themes to discover. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can tailor your stay to your group’s interests and weigh up nature and cultural attractions.

Green spaces and geological monuments

Miskyi sad covers seven hectares and is designated a complex natural monument. It is one of the first formal parks in the left-bank part of Ukraine and dates from 1787. Its area can be compared with that of Prydniprovskyi miskyi park: this park and garden monument lies on the left bank of the Dnipro and covers 40.19 hectares. It includes 4.19 hectares of protected areas; these are part of the total area, not additional land.

The geological natural monuments differ markedly in scale from the parks. The Skelia — hranitnyi reiestr natural monument covers 0.05 hectares. Kremenchuk thus brings together a larger park landscape, a historic city garden and a small geological protected area as very different natural features. For those travelling together, they offer clear points of comparison: park design and history on the one hand, and a distinctive geological classification on the other.

Churches, cemeteries and architectural history

Tserkva Uspinnia Bozhoi Materi is a monument of 19th-century church architecture and the only surviving church building from that period in the city. It was built between 1863 and 1877 as a cemetery church at Kriukivske kladovyshche. A church parish school was built next to the church in 1897. The dates make the site’s development over several decades tangible: the school followed the church’s construction and was built immediately beside it.

Other traces reach back to different centuries. Numerous graves dating from the 19th and 20th centuries have been preserved at Kriukivskyi nekropol. The house of merchant Churkin on the right bank dates from 1902. The former club building for workers at the railway-carriage repair workshops is also on the right bank. Kamiana vezha prysutnikh mists is a national monument from the mid-18th century; it is not accessible and is falling into disrepair. This distinction matters when planning a trip: historic buildings and cemetery traces can be explored as themes, but the tower ruin itself is not accessible.

City and industrial history

The Kremenchuk Local History Museum preserves more than 60,000 exhibits reflecting different periods in the city’s history. The exhibition was inaccessible during renovation work; check before visiting whether it has since reopened. The Museum of the History of the «Kredmash» Plant offers a different perspective on Kremenchuk, with themes spanning from the late 19th century to the present day. Museum tours must be booked in advance; check the current arrangements before your visit.

The Museum of the History of AT «Ukrtatnafta» is devoted to the Kremenchuk oil refinery. More than 3,000 exhibits tell its story from the start of construction in 1960 to the present day. A segment from a documentary about the refinery’s construction is also shown during a tour. Tours require advance registration; confirm the current arrangements before your visit.

The «Zalyshky staroobriadnytskoi tserkvy» Museum is a branch of the municipal cultural institution «Kremenchutskyi kraieznavchyi muzei». In the museum space of the same name, visitors can see remains of the Old Believer church’s foundations, its lower church and a wall fresco. Visits require advance registration and written permission; make arrangements in advance. The Museum of the History of Aviation and Cosmonautics covers the local aviation schools and combat units from 1920 to 1941, as well as the activities of the Kremenchuk Aeroclub from 1938 to 1941.

Choose the right focus

The places mentioned cover different themes and banks of the river: Prydniprovskyi miskyi park is on the left bank, while the house of merchant Churkin and the former club building are on the right. When choosing a holiday rental, you can weigh these locations against your interests. Would you rather focus on parks and natural monuments, or are church, cemetery and industrial history more important to you?
