Discover Urych: Tustan and Local History
Accommodation in Urych
Urych combines a striking rock fortress with places where history comes to life through objects, images, and voices. At Tustan, attention turns to three rock groups and a medieval citadel; the Chata u Hlubokim local history center focuses on Urych and its history. Here, rocky landscapes, archaeological finds, and ethnographic themes come together. You can choose different focuses for your trip: explore the marked trail and climb up, or learn about local history through exhibitions and personal accounts.
Tustan: Rock Fortress and Petroglyphs
The medieval rock fortress of Tustan lies on three rock groups near Urych. Petroglyphs, considered rock carvings, have been preserved on the rocks. Visitors can follow a marked trail around the rocks and climb up to the citadel. This offers two distinct ways to explore: the trail leads around the rock groups, while the citadel is the destination of the climb. If you plan to do both, check the conditions for the trail and climb before you travel.
Finds to Look at and Touch
The Tustan Museum displays original archaeological finds and copies of finds from excavations. A 14th-century ring shield bears an engraved image of a bird: its date and motif make it a striking example from the collection. Visitors can engage differently with copies of reconstructed 16th-century Gothic tiles, which they are allowed to touch. While the ring shield and other finds invite close examination, touching the tile copies is expressly part of the experience. Since specific exhibits may change, check what will be on display during your visit before you travel.
Local History at Chata u Hlubokim
The Chata u Hlubokim local history center is housed in a building that was restored and converted for this purpose by the protected area. An ethnographic exhibition launched in 2016 is titled “Unnecessary Stuff? The story of Urych in objects and images” and explores Urych through objects and images. The center also includes video testimonies from residents, which visitors can watch. Workshops on traditional crafts are also offered. Local history is presented in different forms: through objects and images, the voices of residents, and hands-on craft activities. If you want to plan for a particular workshop, ask about the current program in advance.
Festival Activities for Shared Discoveries
At the BoyE Festival at Chata u Hlubokim, children can make souvenirs and take part in activities on a children’s meadow. Local cuisine is also available to sample. If you’re traveling with children, these hands-on activities are a specific option to consider; check the event dates when planning your trip.
Match Your Holiday Rental to Your Travel Itinerary
If you’re looking for a holiday rental for a stay in Urych, first decide what you want to focus on during your trip. Would you like Tustan—with its rock groups, petroglyphs, and climb to the citadel—to be the highlight, or are you particularly interested in exhibitions, video testimonies, and traditional crafts? These distinctions can help you tailor your search to the experiences you actually plan to include. The rock fortress and local history offer different ways to discover Urych: one through its rocky landscape, the other through the objects and stories at the local history center.
