In Khom'yakivka, local history can be traced through two churches across several centuries. The Church of St. John Chrysostom was built in 1764; the Church of St. Michael the Archangel was built between 2001 and 2011. North of the village, the archaeological settlement of Khomyakivka I offers a glimpse into much earlier periods. These three topics also differ in how their histories can be traced: through construction dates, community funds and consecration for the churches, and through archaeological cultural and period classifications for the settlement. This gives the area's history a broad chronological arc without conflating the churches' history with prehistory.

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel

Several stages in the construction history of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel can be distinguished. The foundation stone was consecrated in 1998. The church was built between 2001 and 2011 with funds from the community. On September 4, 2011, Metropolitan Ioasaf of Ivano-Frankivsk and Halych consecrated the church for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. The foundation-stone consecration therefore predates the stated start of construction; the two dates refer to different events. The construction period and the later consecration of the church should also be distinguished. Thus, an earlier act of consecration, ten years of construction and a precise consecration date are all part of the story. Community funding is another distinct aspect of this construction history.

An older church and its appearance on a map

The Church of St. John Chrysostom offers a much older timeline. It was built in 1764 with funds from the community. A map from 1783 showed it at the site of the present-day church. There are 19 years between the construction date and its depiction on the map. The dates tell us about different things: 1764 marks the construction, while the map shows the church at this location in a later depiction. Community funding provides a specific point of connection with the construction of St. Michael's Church, which was also funded by the community. However, the two construction histories belong to different centuries. This allows the older church's history to be considered alongside the construction of the newer church without conflating their dates.

Khomyakivka I north of the village

In the surrounding area, north of Khom'yakivka, lies the archaeological settlement of Khomyakivka I in the Horodyshche tract. It is listed as an archaeological monument. Its layers are attributed to the Neolithic, including the Comb and Pit-ornamented pottery culture; the Trypillia culture; the Holihrady culture; and the Early Iron Age, dated here to the 7th to 6th centuries BC. The timeline therefore extends from a Neolithic period into the Early Iron Age. Unlike the churches, the focus here is not on a single construction date but on assigning layers to several cultures and periods. These names give the archaeological history its own structure and distinguish it from the construction and consecration events in the village. Those particularly interested in early history will find a different chronological focus here than at the two churches.
