Lyucha lies at 458 m above sea level in mountainous terrain. River courses, waterfalls, Lake Viknyshcha and the Church of the Ascension show different sides of the place. You can focus on its natural and waterside scenery or explore its church architecture. These interests can be your first filter when choosing a holiday apartment.

Mountain landscape, rivers and waterfalls

Lyucha stretches along the Liuchka River and its right-bank tributaries, Rushor and Akra. Mount Kamin rises above Lyucha; at 916 m, Palyta is the highest mountain in the area. Kamin, rising above the village, and Palyta, the highest mountain, thus represent two different landscape landmarks.

The river names refer to different contexts: Liuchka, Rushor and Akra are associated with Lyucha’s position along the river system; Rushir is the river at Huk Waterfall. The waterfall is a natural monument in the hamlet of the same name in Lyucha. It lies in a 20 m-wide gorge and is 4 m high. These measurements distinguish the width of the gorge from the height of the waterfall itself.

Another waterfall is located near Lyucha, below Mount Puhachivka. It was formed by a diversion of the Rushir riverbed and is considered the largest and most beautiful waterfall in the area around the village. The two waterfalls are therefore described by different features: at Huk, the focus is on the gorge’s width and the waterfall’s height; for the waterfall below Puhachivka, it is on its formation and how it ranks in the surrounding area.

You can relax at Lake Viknyshcha. There is also an arboretum in Horishnii Kut, near the forestry office below Mount Nyadzhyn. This adds a lake and another named place in Lyucha to the river and waterfall scenery.

The Church of the Ascension and its architectural form

The Church of the Ascension in Lyucha was built in 1844 and consecrated in 1846. The year it was built and the year it was consecrated mark two distinct stages in its history, two years apart. The building is constructed using log-building techniques and has six domes.

The floor plan is also described precisely: it is cross-shaped, with a square crossing and narrow side arms. These terms make the layout easier to understand: the cross shape describes the overall plan, the crossing is the square intersection, and the side arms are the narrow extensions. The floor plan thus adds a spatial description of its own to the details about the roof design.

The nave has an octagonal base, topped by a tent-shaped dome with a lantern and finial. There are six finials on the roofs in total. Here, the number six refers to two separate features: the domes and the roof finials.

Lyucha offers several points of interest for your holiday planning: mountainous scenery and rivers, natural landmarks and a lake, as well as a distinctive church building. When choosing your holiday apartment, first consider which of these aspects you would most like to shape your stay.
