Culture

The local history includes several notable buildings. Today’s St. Magdalena Chapel was built by Rudolf Bellmont in 1678 and consecrated in 1681 to Saint Mary Magdalene, John the Baptist and John the Evangelist. After severe earthquake damage, it was extensively restored from 1971 to 1975; comprehensive renewal had already been necessary in 1776.

Today’s Tschütschi Chapel was built in 1670 and consecrated in 1672. It is considered one of the oldest chapels in the country and is believed to have existed as early as the beginning of the 13th century. The wooden Acherli house was built around 1270 and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited residential buildings in the canton of Schwyz. In the hamlet of Perfiden in Rickenbach, the remains of a medieval tower castle were discovered during archaeological excavations in 1955.
