S-Chanf is described as a village in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, in the Upper Engadine and in the La Plaiv landscape within the Maloja region.
In 1932, a prehistoric settlement site was discovered on Botta Striera, a rocky elevation north of the village at approximately 2,050 metres. It was used from the Middle Bronze Age through to the La Tène period. The settlement site is therefore a specific point of reference for travellers interested in prehistoric history.
The village is located at approximately 1,660 metres above sea level in the upper reaches of the Inn.
St. Mary's Church has been documented since 1450; its late Gothic reconstruction dates from 1493, while the tower is older.
