Casaccia is a small village at 1,458 metres above sea level at the foot of the Maloja Pass and the Septimer Pass.

History

San Gaudenzio was formerly a much-visited pilgrimage site.

The Late Gothic Church of San Gaudenzio is a historic religious building above Casaccia; it was first mentioned in 998 and built in 1518.

In Casaccia, there is the Cunvent, a building dating from 1520, as well as the ruins of Toracia, the remains of a medieval watchtower above the village.

Orientation

Casaccia's historic location at the crossroads of the Maloja and Septimer passes made the village an important transit station and a former location on a trade route.
