Donat is a Romansh-speaking village at the foot of Schamserberg. Donat is home to the only school where Sutsilvan is taught.

Culture
The Valtschielbach Bridge near Donat was designed by Robert Maillart in 1925 according to the principle of the stiffened truss arch. Donat lies on the historic long-distance hiking route viaSpluga. The Val Schons cultural trail runs from Zillis to Andeer along the viaSpluga route and from Zillis to Donat at the foot of Schamserberg.
Hiking
The Cagliatscha circular hike passes through Donat and connects the ruins of Cagliatscha Castle, the renovated Maillard Bridge and the “Sistine Chapel of the Alps”.
The circular hike in Val Schons follows mountain and forest paths through Donat down to Zillis; along its route, it runs from Cagliatscha via Donat to Zillis.
Donat Church is a sight on the Libi circular tour. This circular tour includes an approximately five-kilometre-long downhill section from Dumangs to Donat, and Donat can be reached by PostBus on this tour. The Avers mule track passes through Donat and Clugin on its way to Andeer.
Cycling and Winter
The beginner-friendly cycling tour on national cycle route no. 6 runs via Donat and Clugin to Andeer. In the Muntogna da Schons municipality, large sections of the mountain roads are prepared as a toboggan run more than 10 km long. This allows you to descend more than 1,000 metres in altitude into the valley; part of the route is illuminated at night.
Culinary Delights
Schamserberg saffron is cultivated at the Stgealetahof farm in Donat. Saffron is harvested daily in October and November in the Stgealetahof’s saffron field in Donat.
Nature
The upper Schamserberg is home to near-natural dry meadows and pastures shaped by centuries of cultivation. They are among the most species-rich habitats in the cultivated landscape.
