Culture and History

Alvaschein is a village in the municipality of Albula/Alvra in the Swiss canton of Graubünden and belongs to the Albula district. Until 31 December 2014, Alvaschein was an independent political municipality; on 1 January 2015, the village became part of the municipality of Albula/Alvra through a merger with several neighbouring municipalities.

Alvaschein is associated with the Romansh name Alvaschagn.

During the Reformation, Alvaschein was one of the municipalities in the canton that remained faithful to the “old faith”.

Alvaschein lies at approximately 1,001 metres above sea level; an elevation range of 764 to 1,409 metres is recorded for the village.
