History

The locality was first recorded in 1388 under the name Chastel propre Montservens.

The land-use pattern of the locality is predominantly agricultural and forested: 46.1 % of the area is used for agriculture, while 41.7 % is forested.

According to the 2009 land-use figures, 2.5 % of the area consists of rivers or lakes.
