Ljungskile combines water, forest, trails and a richly layered local history. Around Ljungskileviken, on Bredfjället and at the lakes in the surrounding area, you will find various opportunities for active days, short walks and cultural discoveries. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Ljungskile, it is therefore worth considering the desired mix of nature, family time, history and regional cuisine when planning your trip.

Circular Trails for Different Day Plans

The Märtalederna offer two circular routes measuring 4.3 and 6.5 kilometres. For a longer hike, the “Salt till sött” circular trail runs for approximately 6 kilometres from the shore of Ljungskileviken to the small Skarsjön lake. The easiest way to start this trail is at Ljungskile Central Station; another starting point is Ljungskile Folkhögskola. This makes it easy to plan the tour as a separate excursion without combining it with a longer hike.

Those looking for varied and more challenging trails can include the Skarsjöleden in their plans. The circular trail runs around Stora Skarsjön east of Ljungskile on Bredfjället. It is hilly and leads over forest paths, rocks and gravel, including steep sections. Bredfjället, which covers approximately 10 square kilometres, is a wilderness and cultural landscape with forests, marshes, streams and around 30 lakes. Numerous cultural and historical remains there tell of a hard life and poverty.

Water, Playgrounds and Easy Walks

For a quieter part of your holiday day, Ljungskile’s beach promenade is ideal. The easy-to-walk path by the water is intended for a short stroll and is also suitable for families with children. Badhusparken also includes the themed playground “Småkrypens värld”. Kungsparken is a bathing spot in Ljungskile. Those who want to experience the waterscape in a different way will find the Ljungskile Kayak Center at the marina on Ljungskileviken.

Another nature experience is Silverfallet, a 15-metre-high waterfall in Ljungskile. The nearest car park is approximately 700 metres beyond the Skarsjövallen sports ground; from there, it is about 1 kilometre on foot. Take this distance into account when planning your day. For families, it may be sensible to combine a trip to the waterfall with a shorter activity by the water or in the park, rather than planning several longer walks in one day.

Churches, the History of the Seaside Resort and Regional Cuisine

Ljungskile’s history also reflects various eras. Ljungs gamla kyrka was probably built in the 12th or early 13th century. Ljungs kyrka, on the other hand, was built in 1901–1902 in the neo-Gothic style typical of the period. In Lyckorna, a traditional seaside resort was founded in 1877 by the estate owner Robert MacFie. Today, the Musselbaren is located in Lyckorna’s old clock tower. Fresh blue mussels are served there with classic accompaniments.

These cultural destinations can be combined with nature experiences over different holiday days: a walk by the water can be followed by a visit to Lyckorna, while the churches provide a quieter focus. When choosing a holiday apartment, it is therefore above all important to consider what kind of daily programme you prefer and whether you would rather fill your trip with short excursions, hikes or culinary discoveries.

Active Days in Every Season

At Norra Fjället, there is a 2.5-kilometre illuminated route for hiking and running, as well as skiing in winter. The hiking trails and cross-country ski tracks there are open to everyone. Every October, the Ljungskile Friluftsklubb organises Bohuslän’s largest orienteering competition. These options complement the longer trails on Bredfjället with shorter, sports-oriented activities.

As another discovery, you can visit Strandskogen. Additional travel ideas include Hogstorp, Dramsvik, Herrestad, Ammenäs, Stan, Kamperöd and Uddevalla .
